Seniors Brandon Parrish and Ousmane Sylla each scored, and No. 9 Clemson held off No. 2 Notre Dame 2-1 to claim the program’s second national championship in three seasons. Clemson (15-3-5), making its sixth championship game appearance in school history and second in three seasons, has won titles in 1984, 1987 and 2021. The Tigers also knocked off Notre Dame in the 2021 semifinals.

South Carolina remains the No. 1 team in The Associated Press Top 25 women's basketball poll. For the first time this season, the top 10 teams stayed the same. UCLA, North Carolina State, Iowa and Texas are the rest of the top five. USC, LSU, Colorado, Stanford and Baylor round out the top 10.

Bronny James had four points, three rebounds and two assists in his college debut for Southern California nearly five months after he suffered cardiac arrest. Playing in front of his father, LeBron James, the 19-year-old freshman logged 16 minutes in the Trojans' 84-79 overtime loss to Long Beach State. James shot 1 of 3, making a 3-pointer in the second half. Later, he made a huge block that drew cheers. Looking on was his father, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. The younger James suffered cardiac arrest on July 20 during a workout on campus. He was found to have a congenital heart defect that was treatable.

The Heisman Trophy race is looking wide open for 2024. Three of the four finalist this year, including winner Jayden Daniels of LSU, are out of eligibility. The other, Marvin Harrison Jr. of Ohio State is likely to jump to the NFL as a junior. Heading into next season there are fewer obvious candidates for an award that has been dominated by quarterbacks, especially transfer QBs. Among those to watch: Alabama's Jalen Milroe, Georgia's Carson Beck and former Oklahoma and UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who plans to play a sixth season of college football at Oregon.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has won the Heisman Trophy in a decisive victory. Daniels is the first Heisman winner to be part of a team team that failed to play for a conference championship since 2016, when Lamar Jackson won for a Louisville team that also went 9-3. Daniels is also LSU's third winner overall. Daniels, who transferred from Arizona State in 2022, is the fifth quarterback in the last seven seasons to win the Heisman after transferring. Daniels received 2,029 points. Washington's Michael Penix Jr. was the runner-up with 1,701 points and Oregon's Bo Nix was third.

Army linebacker Kalib Fortner scored on a fourth-quarter strip sack and then stuffed quarterback Tai Lavatai six inches from the goal line with 3 seconds left to seal the win. Former Oklahoma and UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel has announced he is transferring to Oregon for a sixth season of college football. Gabriel, who is from Hawaii, posted on social media "Marcus Approved" in reference to former Oregon Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, who was also born in Hawaii. Gabriel wears jersey No. 8 in honor of Mariota. He lines up as Oregon's replacement for Bo Nix, a Heisman finalist who spent the last two seasons with the Ducks after starting his career with Auburn. The Ducks are transitioning from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten next season.

JuJu Watkins and Isaiah Collier made history even before stepping onto the Galen Center court for their first games with Southern California. Last November's announcements by Watkins and Collier that they would be attending USC marked the first time the top consensus men's and women's high school recruits both selected to attend the same school in the same season. So far both have been living up to the hype. Watkins is second in the nation in scoring, averaging 27.3 points per game, and has five 30-point games in her first seven contests with the Trojans. Collier's 17.3 points per game is third nationally among freshmen.

Clemson (14-3-5) has reached the championship game for the second time in three seasons — after winning the trophy in 2021. Last Saturday, the Tigers downed Stanford 2-0 to earn the program's 10th College Cup appearance. The Tigers are outscoring their opponents 7-0 in the NCAA Tournament — with goals from six different players. Clemson has also scored in the first half of each tournament game.
