News: Tapehead City and Hellcat Records Release 35th Anniversary Edition Cassette of Operation Ivy's 'Energy' – New Noise Magazine Tapehead City and Hellcat Records teamed up to release a 35th anniversary edition cassette of 'Energy' by Operation Ivy.
…beyond stoked!!
35 years ago today on May 28th, 1989 Operation Ivy released “Energy” and played their final show at Gilman St. The Bay Area punks were only together from 1987 to 1989, but the one album they released would go on to influence thousands of bands. Today, thanks to Hellcat Records Epitaph Records Rancid we have the honor of releasing a reissue of it!
I didn’t discover Opivy until around ‘94 when Green Day broke and I noticed a cover of “Knowledge” on their 1039 / Smoothed out Slappy Hours album. My next visit to Tower Records I would purchase the Operation Ivy compilation CD. I had no idea what they sounded like at all, I just knew Green Day covered a song and wanted to know more. 30 years later they’re still one of my all-time favorite bands. Green Day popped my punk rock cherry, but Opivy introduced me to the ideals of punk and DIY culture.
If you haven’t seen it yet I recommend checking out the documentary Turn It Around: the story of east bay punk
I knew working on this was sacred ground for so many people including myself so I did my best to make it as special as I could without fu***ng anything up ha.. I hope everyone is pleased with how they came out : )
Available in black & white [2-tone] edition and picture printed [UV] edition. Order one or both today along with our Opivy / Tapehead mash up shirts!

The Tapehead Tuesday crew wanted to say thanks to all the Tuesday tapeheads. We will see you again in September! ✌️
I was deeply saddened to hear this story. For someone who has gone to countless shows with bodies flying over his head this really hits home.
“A punk rock-loving concertgoer is partially paralyzed and can only move her arms after a singer launched himself into the crowd and landed on her head during a show in New York last month.
Bird Piché, 24, suffered a “catastrophic spinal cord injury” at the Trophy Eyes concert at the Mohawk Place in Buffalo, NY, on April 30th.
There’s a go fund me if you wanna help

A special Death Metal Monday listing
DEATH METAL MONDAY: Tapes will be listed Tonight, Monday night at 9:30pm [EST] in random 5 tape lots for $25. The tapes are a mix of unofficial, home made and foreign releases from Eastern European countries and elsewhere . None of the tapes have printed text on the shells and I struggled to verify most of them. I figured at $5 a tape it’s worth it either way and if you know your stuff you might walk away with a few valuable rare ones.

30 years ago Pearl Jam, performed live at the Fox Theatre, Atlanta shortly after the band started work on Vitalogy., and just as they embarked on their bitter battle with TicketMaster, this epic show finds them on breathtaking form, playing a cross-section of fan favorites, with a typically intense vocal performance from Eddie Vedder and some scorching guitar from Mike McCready. Originally broadcast on KROQ 106.7 FM, it’s presented here in full as a Double CS together with background notes and images. [2 cassette set] 200 hand numbered copies.
