A dear friend of mine shared this. Thank you RC for your timely share🤍

I’ve been in both. I’m sure you have too. And I prefer the softness, kindness, + understanding environment, over the survival, hostile, and divisive environment any day 😌

I didn’t 😭😂 16/06/2023

I can relate baby doll….it’s Friday + I want a nap too 😂🥲

Our bodies are incredible vessels that carry us through every experience, emotion, and challenge. But it's vital to remember that feeling safe within our own skin is an essential part of our well-being.

When we feel safe in our bodies, we create a foundation for healing + resilience. It's like having a soft, comforting haven amidst the storms of life.

Stressors and traumas can shake us to our core, leaving us feeling disconnected from our body + incredibly vulnerable + raw. But by fostering a sense of safety within us, we empower our bodies to heal, release tension, and restore balance.

So how can we cultivate this sense of safety? Here are a few gentle reminders:

Listen to your body: Tune in and honor the sensations, emotions, + signals your body sends you. Trust its wisdom and be gentle with yourself.

Practice self-care: Engage in activities that nourish and replenish your energy. Whether it's taking a warm bath, going for a walk in nature, or practicing mindfulness, prioritize self-care rituals that bring you comfort + peace.

Seek support: Reach out to compassionate professionals who specialize in somatic-based therapies. These modalities can guide you in reconnecting with your body, releasing stored tension, and fostering a sense of safety.

Create safe spaces: Surround yourself with people who uplift + respect your boundaries. Cultivate relationships that honor your journey and support your healing process.

Feeling safe in your body is a journey, and it's unique to each of us. Embrace this journey with patience, love, + kindness.

Should you want to learn more about somatic (body) based modalities, reach out to me.

Sending you all love, light, and boundless support on your journey. Remember, you are not alone. 💙

U.S. kids grappling with mental health crisis made worse by the pandemic | 60 Minutes 05/06/2023

In case you may have missed last night's episode of 60-minutes, there was a segment, titled, "Crisis" regarding our children's mental health culture and climate we are currently experiencing post-pandemic. While this crisis existed before the pandemic, it has certainly exacerbated since. While it is encouraging to see funding towards these critical services, we still have a long way to go.

U.S. kids grappling with mental health crisis made worse by the pandemic | 60 Minutes Sharyn Alfonsi reports from Wisconsin where rates of adolescent self-harm and attempted su***de have nearly doubled since 2019.

Let’s talk ART for a minute.

Not the art you might be thinking—not where you color, paint, craft, or draw 🎨🖌️

ART is an acronym for Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It’s a therapeutic modality that is relatively newer (developed in 2008) and is similar to EMDR, but have important differences.

ART + EMDR both use eye movement techniques to help patients quickly. However, ART uses a specific number of eye movements, where EMDR number vary.

EMDR focuses on content of trauma, anxiety, limiting beliefs, past memories, etc.

ART concentrates on emotions, images, + sensations associated with trauma, anxiety, limiting beliefs, past memories, etc, to provide memory resolution.

In a sense, ART is a somatic type of work. Soma is the Latin word for ‘body’.

An incredible aspect of ART, is that clients usually experience immediate relief from 1-3 sessions of ART, in comparison to 7-8 sessions with EMDR.

If you are interested in learning if ART is right for you, reach out to me through my website, which is linked below in the comments.

When I began teaching yoga to children at our local school district, I created a FaceBook group for kids + their grown ups as a place to share informational posts, resources, and a way for grown ups with littles to connect with one another🌈 Afterall….it takes a village ♥️

This group sat idle for a while (ahem—2 years 🙃) while I attended graduate school. When I revisited the group a month ago, my last post was from October 2020.

So…I made some changes to the group making it private—I also removed all the members temporarily (sorry 😜) so I could add two years of photos to the group over the course of a few days. Had I had group members in the groups during my “catch-up”, I would have flooded your feed.

To avoid that, I removed you and did my thing and now would like to welcome you back now that it is all caught up 😁

The FB group is called Mindfulness and Movement. I’ll link it below in the comments. If you’d like to join + check it out, I would love to have you there🌈

Therefore making Rudolph codependent —thanks Santa 🎅🏻🤦🏼‍♀️

However…there’s more to the story here. Rudolph hires a therapist, works through his limiting beliefs + then claps back at Santa + the other Reindeer by sticking up for himself.

Check out Jack Johnson’s version of Rudolph in the comments. I think you’ll find this version SO much better ♥️🎄💚

Anxiety v. Amazon

Sending gentle peace to you + your UPS driver this Holiday season 😬♥️😬

Holidays + family are job security 😜

Remember: punching others is frowned upon ✌🏻

Happy Turkey Day🦃

In other words….be gentle with yourself. When we FEEL good working towards our goals—we are in alignment + our goals progress effortlessly.

When we work ourselves into oblivion + are tired, stressed, and frustrated that there’s zero progress, we are likely doing it wrong. That’s when we become stuck.

Contrary to popular belief—hard work doesn’t always mean success ✌🏻

When we feel good—we do good + attract good.

Just over a week ago, I completed a training certificate program specializing in a newer healing modality, called Accelerated Resolution Therapy or as it’s know by the acronym—ART.

ART is somewhat similar to that of EMDR—Eye Movement Desensitization + Reprocessing as it uses eye movements as the primarily technique for trauma processing.

However—how ART differs is in the processing of trauma, as clinicians use visual image replacement + removes bothersome emotions associated with the event. We don’t erase the event, we just lose the pain associated with it.

During my training, I was both a clinician + client and was able to experience the direct effects of a single session. It was mind blowing—pun intended 😁

ART can be used for bothersome areas other than trauma, such as overcoming phobias, general anxiety, improving focus, performance enhancement, job stress, etc.

I am in the process of working with some individuals to strengthen my skills in this modality + am grateful to these special souls who trust me to guide them + help them.

I will be sharing more on this modality in upcoming posts but wanted to share this update as I just received my certificate via email today🤍

Love + Light,
Kim

Hi Everyone,

It's me, Kim ☺️ It's been a minute or two since I last used this platform. In fact....it's been two years since my last post + check-in. Whoops!

I used this platform a few years ago as a vehicle for sharing positive inspiration, promoting + marketing my book, and made a few attempts to try and serve as a "Life Coach" which honestly, did not feel right to me.

While I know a few wonderful souls serving in those roles, I knew I could not serve in the role of a "coach" while someone unpacked layers of trauma + pain in a session. It didn't feel ethical at all + it was not something I could do in good conscious.

Soooo......in June 2020, I enrolled in GRADUATE school + earned my Masters degree in Social Work in 2022 with a clinical concentration to provide mental health treatment to individuals + became licensed by the State of Michigan to do so🥳 So....that explains my 2-year resume gap here!

Since this platform had already been established, I am keeping it as Kim Reid Therapy. You may notice a few minor changes here + there, such as updated profile pictures and posts that reflect mental health, but I hope you will stick with me + hang out for a while, and maybe share some posts from time to time that relate to mental health + healing.

I have had the honor + privilege these past two years of being in an incredible cohort with classmates who are now clinicians themselves, along with connecting with other therapists who I continue to learn from each day.

I have lots to share in the coming days, but for now, I am back +am SO happy to join the rank + profession of amazing mental health clinicians 💜

My Story

In 2015, my career experienced a significant setback. I was determined to grow through the adversity, using the lessons that were brought to me to build resiliency through faith, reframing methods, and maintaining a positive perspective and mindset. I teach these techniques to employees in public and private corporations to offer them alternative ways to navigate adversity and introduce them to new ways of healing and managing stress.

As a yoga and meditation teacher, I incorporate these approaches for employee wellness to bring about an awareness to holistic mindfulness methods into the workplace where employees are invited to engage in meaningful practices to promote and sustain their health and well-being.

I invite you to follow the page to watch for my personal development book, Root Down and Rise Up to be published in late 2018.. This book is for those who have experienced a personal or professional setback and meaningful techniques to help someone turn their setback into their setup for future success.
