We upgraded the search functionality!
An avid user was telling us about some of these browser extension which track the earned commissions and give you a rebate by check. Those extensions redirect the URL with their own affiliate codes thereby precluding us from collecting any commissions for items that we are monitoring on behalf of customers.
We rolled out some code to detect some of the most popular extensions on Chrome as 90% of our users have Chrome either on a Mac or PC.
Something I wanted to query today when I woke up was the overlap of items between users. Meaning - two different people watching the same item doesn't mean that I have to do twice the work!
Surprisingly more than 10% of our products are watched by more than one user... that was more than I expected. The original model anticipated that there would be popular items, and it holds up!
The numbers from this past Christmas shopping season were the lowest we have seen since we started in 2014. That, combined with the increasing costs of anti-SPAM, cloud hosting and CDN, and residential proxy services have ensured we posted our biggest loss yet on our 2021 taxes.
We have 17,456 total users while only 3,114 of them have watched items (active users).
Each active user watches an average of about 4 items with a median of 1, a mode of 1, and a standard deviation of approximately 11 items.
Restricting the free tier to 5 items would cover the "average" user but affect just over 300 users not currently on the PayPal VIP subscription.

We have several retailers now which are using paid bot detection services which, in turn, costs us money to circumvent. These retailers are therefore restricted to our VIP members.
In addition, we wanted to clarify that the free tier of service currently lets you watch up to 100 items. We will start hassling you about becoming a VIP after 50 items.
