Finishing the year off strong 💪🏼

It’s been a crazy last couple of weeks.

I’m often guilty of focusing too much on my mistakes or times where I feel I’ve fallen short. It doesn’t help that I (consciously or subconsciously) compare my progress to other people, whether that be work related or even at the gym doing jiu jitsu.

It’s tough feeling like you’re not doing enough, especially when you have a demanding job, family that need and deserve your attention and a hobby that you want to excel at and balancing all of these things.

Do I get the balance right all the time? No, but I’ve gotta remind myself that I can only do what I can and hope the rest falls in place. I’ve also got to remember that everyone’s journey is different and I really should allow myself to celebrate some wins from time to time.

Some of my goals this year was to medal at least twice in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament and also get my Dental Implant Diploma, doing what I could throughout the year to make that a reality. Nothing too extreme, just trying to consistently improve and gain some knowledge whenever I could.

In the past few weeks though, it was crunch time. I had signed up to two competitions and my Diploma submissions and exams were right slap bang in the middle of the two.

I’m not sure what was more gut wrenching, the revision and case presentations or the anxiety of competing. There was lots of working through the night while also trying to improve my cardio, watching instructional, dehydrating and limiting meals to make weight to add to an already busy schedule. 

But AlhumdillAh, hard work pays off;

- Diploma completed ✔️ where I earned the Best Implant case award

- Medaled in 2 Jiu Jitsu tournaments - Silver and Bronze. Not quite what I wanted but I’m so much more better off by going through the whole experience of competing.

Huge thank you to my mentors and coaches that have helped me but also and more importantly my amazing wife for supporting me every step of the way .
