We returned to the Jazz Bar on Friday 1st of December to a packed house. It was an emotional evening being our first gig since the passing of our beloved band mate Dougie Hunter but all agreed that we did him proud. Paul Haddow taking up the reins on bass and John Beresford guiding us through the evening with anecdotes, emotional tributes and laughter. Both did brilliantly. We are very thankful for the support from Dougie's wife Mandy Hunter, her family and
friends. It was a great night.
Happy holidays and all the best for the New Year. We look forward to seeing you all and making more music real soon.
An amazing night you all did Dougie proud❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I’m saddened to report the sudden loss of our good friend & member of Main Street Blues, Ian Hanna. Top guy and musician and our thoughts are with Derek and the boys at this time.
LOBN is grateful for the support received for the upcoming tribute gig in honour of Dougie at the Jazz Bar on Friday, the 1st of December, The band has been working hard in rehearsals, especially our slide trombone player Paul Haddow, who has done exceptionally well preparing to perform on bass guitar.
Many people have reached out wanting to be there and have enquired about obtaining tickets. The venue has decided to implement a queue system from 8:15 - 8:30 and then pay at the door. LOBN will be on stage and perform two 55-minute spots from 9:15.
We look forward to seeing so many friends again.
Emotional return for Lights Out By Nine’s first gig after death of Dougie Hunter Lights Out By Nine are set to return to the stage for their first gig since the death of bass player and founder, Dougie Hunter.
It’s almost 2 months since Dougie passed and it has been a challenging period deciding the future of the band.
The first question we collectively had to address, was whether we wanted to continue to perform as LOBN. The outcome was that the band agreed to continue for a further 12 months and review our position thereafter.
Somewhat more difficult was the question of how the band would line up. The answer came from the LOBN horn section when Paul Haddow agreed to step out from the horns and takeover on bass guitar to ease the difficult process of getting the band back on the road.
Rehearsals over the past few weeks have gone well and our first gig will appropriately be at the Jazz Bar, Edinburgh on Friday 1st December. It’s sure to be an emotionally charged night as we pay tribute to the memory of our fellow band member and close friend, Dougie Hunter ….the heart and soul of LOBN.
An amazing total in Dougies memory thank you everyone again ❤️

I was recently thrilled to receive a copy of these photographs depicting a night at the "Whisky a Go Go" club in Los Angeles back in 1973, requesting confirmation of the band members' names. This, of course, is the ORIGINAL line up of the Average White Band, and featuring prominently in the pics, our very good friend Hamish Stuart. The pics were shot by San Francisco photographer, David Staugas, and will feature in his forthcoming book. Meanwhile AWB, in general, and Hame (who is equally thrilled with these pics!), in particular, has been a huge inspiration to us and other musicians like us, to "keep the faith" and do what we do with integrity. Without what they achieved, and continue to do so, the rest might have been very different! So thanks to Hamish, Onnie, Alan, Robbie, Roger and Molly for being true trailblazers! DH.
So, just to recap on the nervous tension and absolute joy of the first weekend of the Fringe - read all about it from another perspective - we made the press once more! Two more shows to go and get your tickets now as they are moving swiftly out of the box office!!!
Edinburgh traffic chaos hits Fife band Lights Out By Nine's Fringe gig, but show goes on I should have known it would be chaos. It was the first Saturday of the Edinburgh festival season, the international cycling championships with roads closed and Scotland were playing rugby at Murrayfield.
The stage before and after the show tonight, and we will hold that image until the last weekend (25th/26th) of the month and the Fringe. What an absolutely fabulous night tonight, a brilliant crowd, a full band and a full set of songs. We loved every single minute of it - give yourselves (our audience tonight) a big round of applause, you were brilliant!! See you at the end of the month in our favourite basement!!
A little Sunday morning “pick me up” before we return to the Jazz Bar at full strength tonight (we hope and pray) for the third date in the series of five. We will be back in the Chambers Street basement this evening at 7pm - our FIRST EVER Sunday at the venue!!
