Clinical Animal Behavior Conference

The inaugural Clinical Animal Behavior Conference was held on September 25 -27, 2015 at the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas.

The Clinical Animal Behavior Conference is an annual continuing education meeting for Veterinarians, Veterinary Assistants, Veterinary Technicians, and Animal Trainers. The program offers leading edge, clinically applicable, and hands-on program for veterinarians, technicians, staff, and trainers. The conference is presented by the American Society of Animal Behavior, the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians, and the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians.

📢Speaker Spotlight: Jennifer Shryock

Jennifer is a distinguished figure within the realm of dog behavior and family dynamics. As the proprietor and creator of Family Paws® LLC, she brings forth a wealth of expertise and experience. Holding certifications as a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) and a Licensed Family Dog Mediator, Jennifer boasts a robust background, including a dual degree in special education and Elementary Education, supplemented by over three decades of professional practice.
Her contributions extend beyond her own ventures, having served on various esteemed boards, such as the International Childbirth Education Association, and notably as Vice President of Doggone Safe, an esteemed non-profit organization devoted to dog bite prevention and victim support during her tenure from 2001 to 2016.
Jennifer's authority as an expert in dog and baby/toddler interactions and safety is widely acknowledged. She has provided mentorship to numerous professionals in the field, alongside prolific authorship and public speaking engagements on these vital topics.
A pivotal moment in Jennifer's career arose while collaborating with the rescue organization from which she adopted her own canine companion. Witnessing the challenges faced by families with infants or young children in navigating their pet dynamics, she recognized a pressing need for guidance and education. This realization spurred the development of tailored resources through Family Paws®, ultimately leading to the establishment of acclaimed international programs such as Dogs & Storks® and Dogs & ToddlersTM. This evolution culminated in the establishment of Family Paws® Parent Education, a global provider of comprehensive programs and services.
Residing in Cary, North Carolina, Jennifer's personal life mirrors her professional dedication to fostering harmonious relationships between humans and animals. She shares her home with her husband, children, three dogs, five cats, and two endearing guinea pigs.

📢Thursday Speaker Spotlight: Dr Sheilah A. Robertson BVMS (Hons), PhD, DACVAA, DECVAA, DACAW, DECAWBM (WSEL), CVA, FRCVS.🐾

After graduating from the University of Glasgow, Dr Robertson undertook specialized training in anesthesia and pain management. She is board-certified in anesthesia and in animal welfare by the respective American and European Colleges. She holds a certificate in small animal acupuncture and shelter medicine. Dr Robertson is a certified Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine Palliative and End-of-Life practitioner. Her current position is senior medical director of Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, a large network of veterinarians dedicated to end-of-life care. Dr Robertson is a courtesy lecturer at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida.

📢Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Hagar Hause🐾

Dr. Hause earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from the University of Maryland College Park. She graduated cm laude from the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, she completed an internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, D.C. She then completed a residency in veterinary behavioral medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Ryan Veterinary Hospital. She has experience in treating canine and feline behavior concerns, including affective aggression, generalized anxiety, noise phobias, separation anxiety, compulsive behaviors, elimination in the home, etc. Dr. Hauser is published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior for her research on reducing stress in dogs during veterinary visits and was granted the Fear Free Research Award for this project. She has achieved Fear Free Elite Certification and believes low-stress handling in the veterinary clinic is key to providing the best medical care to every animal. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists.

📢Thursday Speaker Spotlight: Kristin Klebba, VTS 🐾

Kristen graduated from Macomb Community College with an associate’s degree in veterinary technology in 2006. After graduation, while working at a small animal practice, she adopted a Jack Russell Terrier named Daphne, who suffered from anxiety, sparking her passion for behavioral medicine. Kristen completed the Karen Pryor Academy Professional Dog Training program in April 2015 and joined the behavior team at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in November 2015, where she furthered her knowledge of animal behavior and achieved her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Behavior in 2020. Kristen has since made the switch back to general practice, where she is looking forward to spreading more behavior knowledge by educating pet parents on proper puppy/kitten socialization and development, improving low-stress handling techniques for veterinary staff, and teaching cooperative care techniques for veterinary procedures. In her free time, Kristen enjoys spending time with her Corgi, Mac and cat, Sawyer.

📢Thursday Speaker Spotlight: Jeannine Moho🐾

Jeannine Moga, MA, MSW, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with specialties in veterinary social work, occupational stress/resilience, and grief and loss – which to most people sounds incredibly stressful, but to her ignites a sense of purpose! She has previously delivered VETgirl wellness content. Jeannine pursued a Master’s degree in Sociology (Washington State University) before changing fields and receiving her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota in 2004. She has developed and led two veterinary social work programs (Veterinary Social Services at the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Medical Center and Family & Community Services at NC State University’s Veterinary Hospital). She has spent the past 15 years working with veterinary, animal welfare, and social services professionals to address the intersections of human and animal health and well-being. She is now in private practice in Southeast Virginia, where she serves as a therapist and veterinary social work educator/ consultant. In her spare time, Jeannine enjoys trail riding, yoga, home renovation projects, and trying to bake the perfect pie. Jeannine and her husband share their lives with/wrangle a teenager, four dogs, a bird, and a horse.
