This morning I got to attend the baptism of my Little Miss Provo 2023, Navy! Navy was baptized and confirmed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was such a beautiful service and I felt so touched by her faith and choice to follow Jesus Christ. Congratulations sweet girl! 🤍

Today is National in honor of the American Heart Association!❤️ Two years ago someone very close to me experienced serious cardiac arrest. I felt helpless; all I could do was pray. That moment changed my perspective on the preciousness of life and the importance of taking care of our hearts forever. I am happy to support such an impactful organization today, and to have the knowledge that every beat matters.

I asked my ESL class to write their dream job on the board. Last night we practiced interviewing in English and discussed their skills. It was a humbling experience to watch them write “doctor,” “business owner,” and “teacher” on the whiteboard. They have worked so hard. They’ve moved to another country, they are learning a whole new language, and they’re pursuing their goals, many of them alone. It’s moments like these when I’m reminded why my community service initiative is so special to me. Educating immigrants about scholarships and local programs opens the door for them to make their hopes a reality.

I am so excited to start integrating my titleholder account and my community service initiative page! That being said, it’s time for a college spotlight. ;)

🎓College of the week: Brigham Young University 🤍💙🖤

My own school! I started these college spotlights to share scholastic opportunities with Utah immigrants. BYU says, “We embrace and celebrate diversity.” Being a cougar myself, I know first hand the power of cultural connection found on campus. We are given international study options, we are required to take cultural awareness credits, and I meet people from all over the world in my classes.

BYU has programs such as the Office of Belonging, BYU Folk Dance, Living Legends, International Club, Multicultural Student Services, International Student and Scholar Services, and the Museum of Peoples and Cultures to cultivate a university where students enter to learn in order to bring their gifts and knowledge to serve the world.

It was such a pleasure to attend Provo Rotary Club’s November meeting!🤎 I especially enjoyed hearing Sarah speak so eloquently and passionately about her CSI, Reducing Recidivism: Strengthening Families. Be the one. 🇺🇸

Tonight I was invited to sing the National Anthem at the Utah American Legion “Be the One” banquet. Be the One promotes awareness & prevention for veteran su***de. It absolutely broke my heart to learn that as of 2020, the average for veteran su***des nation-wide was 16 deaths per day. These noble men and women who served us so valiantly, and yet are silently suffering. There is a way to help. By being the one to ask how someone is doing, by being the one that texts a friend “I love you”, by being the one that reaches out, you are opening a window of opportunity for conversation and help. You never know who might need it in that critical moment.

It was such a privilege to be surrounded by those inspiring soldiers. Several of them shared experiences of times when they’ve felt immense loss because of su***de, times when they have been the one for someone, and times when someone has been the one for them. I have a deeper sense of gratitude, love, and respect for all those who have served our country and their continuing mission after military service. Their stories move me and motivate me to be better.

I invite you to join me by being the one. Check in on someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Tell them you love them. There is POWER in numbers.❤️

Maybe you personally feel like you’re struggling. I invite you to take courage and talk to someone. 988 is our national su***de lifeline. Your value in this world is priceless.

Meet Navy Cornia, Little Miss Provo 2023.✨ Navy is the sweetest little miss I could ever have! She is my cousin, and all throughout competition night last month, she was hugging me and cheering me on. It was such a joy to have her there. She’s the best!

🧡 She loves art, playing soccer, playing with her friends, and riding her bike

Mayor Michele Kaufusi is not only intelligent and kind, but she also has the drive and vision of Provo that will fortify every aspect of our city. It was a privilege to meet with her today, to see her heart, and discuss our plans. 🇺🇸🤍❤️

On October 16th, Siena Schoenrock, a sweet local student at Provo High School, was tragically involved in an fatal auto-pedestrian accident. This Saturday, her sister Ella and are hosting a 5k in her loving memory. Please join us at Lakeside Park this weekend to run for Siena; all funds will be donated to the Schoenrock family. 🤍

1 MONTH AS MISS PROVO!! I’ve loved how many people and events I’ve been able to meet and support just in the last 30 days! The work and progress that goes into this job is ever fulfilling and I’m so blessed to take part of it this year.

What is the Miss America Organization? 👑

I get a lot of questions about this and it’s an honor to talk about the program that has given me over $4,000 in scholarships!

For those of you who may not be familiar with MAO, it is a scholarship program for young women organized into city, county, state, and national competitions. Contestants enter the competition with a Community Service Initiative (CSI) or their vision of how they’re going to help their community. They are scored in five categories: Private Interview (30%)
On-stage Question (10%)
Fitness (20%)
Talent (20%)
Evening Gown (20%)

The young women crowned receive a scholarship and a year of opportunity to serve her community.

I’m grateful for MAO and everything it’s helped me to become. Comfortable public speaking, educated about current events, confident in front of an audience, service-oriented. Thank you Miss America!

This afternoon I met with CEO Clarke Woodger and Sales Manager David Revolledo of Nomen Global to discuss available resources and local opportunities for immigrants with student visas here in Utah county. I’m looking forward to volunteering with them and continue assisting those seeking to further their education here in the US. 🇺🇸
