'LAMOUNI'
The main idea behind this song is to emphasise humanity and fight against racism and colourism.

It is a traditional Tunisian song, long-established, telling the story of a white man who has fallen in love with a black woman working in a cafe.

He is responding to the critics, saying she is beautiful and he wants to marry her, to continue his life with her, because he loves her so much.

His family and people close to him have told him not to do this, and are shocked and disbelieving that he could be so deeply in love with this woman.

These people start to criticise him - they say "We are surprised - how you can love her? We can't see anything to make you love her so boundlessly and unreservedly."

The writer replies, saying, "I wish you had my eyes, my heart, my brain, to see this woman and how amazing she is."

She is Eve in my eyes, and I am Adam in hers.

People point and ask why I would fall in love with a black woman they think of as a slave.

But this woman is not a slave - she is beautiful. Her beauty is beyond limit. All the people around the world are singing for these beautiful colours, these tones.

You say you can't think why I love her, and try to push me to leave her.

But she is everything in my life. I can't leave her, or I would die. She is my life.
She is the ocean, and I am a fish. If you take the fish from the water, it will die.

What do you want from me, people?
Do you want to damage my life with your words?

Are you jealous - is this envy?
Do you want this for yourself instead?
Do you want me to lose her so that you can take her?
I cannot live without her and I won't allow it.

'Um al Yatama' - lyric by Mahjoub Sherif, sung by Shurooq Abu Nas:
Between her workplace and her home,
struggling on her way,
sweating in the heat,
the Mother of Orphans is weeping.
When she counts what she earns,
she feels overwhelmed,
drowning in a sea of troubles.
The money - for milk, oil,
gurassa, exercise books -
just isn't enough.
Signing in at her workplace,
sitting at the sewing machine.
Experience teaches her
this work can heal the injury:
the needle will stitch
a wounded life together.
Bereaved of feeling
She will fend for herself
without support
if she must.
Mother of Orphans
sewing clothes for her children
with scraps from work,
from the tailoring factory.
Wishing her husband had not died
and was still with her, and her children.
There are no guarantees in this life.
Everything gets destroyed.
Weeping and remembering
as the needle pierces the cloth,
suffering pierces her heart
and her eyes feel the pulling threads.
There is pain in every stitch
but she must finish sewing.
