Dear Maritime Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni and Friends,
Maritime College received word early this morning that the Empire State VI will be activated to aid in the Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. We anticipate that it will take more than a week to activate and prepare the ship, and a five to seven days before the ship arrives in Texas.
The Maritime Administration will contract for the activation and crewing of the vessel. No students will be sailing with the ship. Maritime College is currently assessing any potential impact on classes and training normally held onboard when the ship is pier side and will identify solutions to minimize the impact.
Empire State VI will provide housing, food and water to support first responders in the Harvey relief efforts. Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s Kennedy is also being activated for the same purpose.

Just another reminder. One of our biggest challenges lately is that we are unable to be open to the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the temporty pier. BUT, in 36 hours the ship will be shifting from Clinton Street over to Fells Point. We will be there until the morning after the 4th of July Fireworks and are open to the public each day. On Friday we are only going to be open from 12pm-3pm due to a private event in the evening. But on Saturday, Sunday and Monday the ship will be open from 12pm-7pm. On Tuesday the ship will be open from 12pm to 4pm. We are still selling tickets to view the fireworks onboard the ship. Please visit local merchants to get a code to lower the cost of the tickets to $10 per ticket. Check out the flier below for more info. We hope to see you then.
