Sikh Volunteers Are Delivering Thousands Of Meals During The Pandemic Sikhs in New York, California and Washington state are cooking up large batches of food and buying groceries for families in need.
Today I’m using a breathing app to keep the breathing pace throughout the 1/2 hour session. You’ll hear the sounds of inhale and exhale and see the image expand and contract.
Each segment follows 22 breaths and lasts about 9 minutes.
As you follow the movements, focus on your breath. Do your best to match the breath cycle you are seeing and hearing, You will gradually build your lung capacity as you consciously focus on taking deeper breaths.
I'm using Gurmentor's Breathing App (available for iOS on the App Store).
The learning possibilities are endless with ENCORE!!! You can add your own voice, and paste text to activate the synthesized voice. Install ENCORE!!! Language Learning and then take advantage of the in-app purchase for the language you want to learn!

Here's the video about Sanskrit names recorded from the new Encore!!! Language Learning app!
Pronounce the Sanskrit names for yoga postures like a pro with Encore!!! Language Learning app
If you’ve every tried to memorize the names of yoga poses, you know it takes practice! But how great it is to be able to say them correctly and to know what the posture means. Strengthen not only your body with yoga, but also your brain! This video demonstrates how you can use the app to learn the words and even to write them in a different script…Devnagri (the ‘alphabet’ of Sanskrit and also of Hindi).
See how the Encore!!! Language Learning app can be used to create your own customized learning playlists through the unique Edit My Entry function of the app. Out of the 11 language choices paired with English, this playlist uses the Hindi text-to-voice function to say the words aloud 3 times. We’ve added some fun graphics during the editing process. You can make your own screen recording of any playlist on your app. You can use the screen recording as is, or use a video editing software to add other elements. You can add more repetitions, a longer pause to say what you hear, or even switch the two languages.
As you listen, make an intention to say the words aloud. Challenge your brain as well as the more than 100 muscles of the mouth needed to pronounce a new sound.
(available on the Apple store now and soon to come on Google play)
Jasprit and Teresa have been working hard to release the new Encore!!! Language App.
Now, you can get it for FREE (iphone and ipad) on the app store! Listen to any of the 11 languages as you take a walk, exercise, or relax. Nourish your brain cells with new sounds!

things I noticed while walking around Torino: both small and grande, old and new, strange and oddly familiar...
My 'hat's off' to Jasprit and Nihal who took on the challenge of walking up the 6-kilometers of stoney pathway (a total of 5,000 feet climb) to Hemkunt Sahib (at 15,000 feet) armed only with a bamboo stick, fortified by the sweet sound of live kirtan which could be heard broadcast from the Gurdwara at the top.
Nirala, who was battling a cold, started on a horse, but ended up going by foot the last half of the journey.
The previous two days we had all been hiking (9.7 kilometers and 4,700 feet elevation the first day, and then to Valley of Flowers, a 3.7 kilometer trek to an altitude of about 11,000 feet). There is also the option of taking a helicopter, which Parveen did: she enjoyed the view from way up high!
Laurie and I decided to avail ourselves of the "ghorey-wallas" (horsemen) and rented a Himalayan horse (a smaller variety of horse) and an expert horseman to guide our horses up.
Our ghorey-walla looked to be about 14 or 15 years-old. Spry and fit. And, thankfully, very cautious with the horses (and therefore, with us!).
We could enjoy the views from atop the horses, but snapping photos was a bit of a challenge, with the constant movement of the sure-footed creatures.
The sound of the bells around their necks gave some comfort to us, knowing they were still on the path (many of the horses like to walk right on the edge of the path, making it extra scary for the passenger!)
A designated Unesco World Network of Biosphere Reserves, the Nanda Devi National Park contains treasures of the Himalayas.
Alpine flowers and fauna, many having medicinal properties, and elusive, rare and endangered animals like the Asiatic Black Bear, snow leopard and blue sheep.
You may read that the VoF trek is not so difficult. But beware! It's a tough climb, and an even tougher descent!
I'm glad we chose to buy the bamboo walking sticks to help us navigate the rocky steps and uneven surfaces of the stone pavement!
Even though the best flowering season had passed, going in Sept is less crowded, less chance of monsoons, and pleasant temperatures. The aromas of the birch forest, and the remaining flowers filled the senses with the richness of what nature has to offer 11.000+ feet above sea level!
First day of the trek from Gobindghat to Ghangaria...started with 'mata-tek' (giving thanks) at the Govindghat Gurdwara: a beautiful mountainside place of worship and peace.
Leaving the charming "Ganga Resort Homely Stay" Inn, we began walking up the mountain, stopping for snacks, delicious fresh fruit, meeting and greeting many kind pilgrims who were also going on to Hemkunt Sahib.
The difficulty of this 9.7 kilometer trek is lightened by the kind greetings of "Sat Shri Akal" (Truth is Timeless), Wahe Guru (God is Wondrous), and "Hello!" from fellow pilgrims/trekkers.
People share their snacks when they spot a weary hiker who needs rest and a quick pick-me-up.
The bells tied around the donkeys necks signal to the hikers to give a wide berth, to avoid donkey-human mishaps.
It was a magnificent day of trekking.
Perfect day to spread smiles and optimism: join us at Hamsa Ojia at 2 pm (or be with us in spirit...jiggle your shoulders and laugh!)
Just 3 more Sundays: Aug 13, 20 and Sept 3 at Hamsa Dance Studio in Ojai. 2-4:30 pm please join Jasprit and Teresa for Bhangra laughter!
