GROWING LAVENDER FROM SEED OK….so it’s way easier to just propagate lavender, but I didn’t know that when I bought the seeds during lockdown. 🌿From 300 seeds grown on window sills around the house & on a single bed where the sunlight hit the room. 🌿Lightly watered once a week for 6mths. From March to October 🌿We got 100 of them outside to be weathered & 78 made it into the ground! >>Lots didn’t grow at all >>Lots died moving to bigger pots** >>Lots died when being weathered outside. **we used cups & cup up the bottom of plastic bottles with drainage holes in as they were taller for the roots & covered them with brown paper so light would not damage the roots 🌱Plant A Seed 🌻Grow A Flower 🐝Feed The Bees Love Katrina & Clayton @buildingafoodforest_scotland 🌱Plant🌻Grow 🐝Feed

USE THAT RAIN WATER 💧There was the kids paddle pool sitting on the floor in the kitchen courtyard it had filled up with rain water 💧Using that water to really give these sweet peas a good water in these felt bags. 21 WEEKS INTO 2024’S TEMPERATURE BLANKET 🧶WHOOHOOO We hit Raspberry this month! Had some little blocks of warmth going up to 25°c before it dipped down again this week with a night low of 5°c!!!!! HERBS: PROPAGATING ROSEMARY 🌿Clayton Taking Rosemary Cuttings to propagate over winter, but you can take them all year round. They are slow to grow 🌿Taking Semi Ripe cuttings - current healthy shoots with a firm woody base 🌿Best time is Spring/Summer but in Winter take at least 6weeks before ground frost they work too. 🌿Cutting just below the node & remove bottom 1/3 of leaves 🌿Use rooting powder (optional) -Helps form new roots on cuttings and place them in a pot with enough room to grow 🌿Water in & place somewhere that still gets 3-4hrs of sunlight a day. 🌿Over Winter they’ll take longer for root to establish than if you take them in the Spring/Summer with fresh growth 🪴Pots we are using are bamboo fibre pots from @greentoneseco 🌱Plant A Seed 🌻Grow A Flower 🐝Feed The Bees Love Katrina & Clayton @buildingafoodforest_scotland 🌱Plant🌻Grow 🐝Feed

PERMACULTURE PRINCIPLE 3️⃣: IN OUR GARDEN 🌿A round up of all the informational chunks gone out every morning this week about Permaculture Principle No3:Obtain a yield. Looking how we harvest rainwater, methods we use to compost and store energy nutrient rich soil and windbreaks enhancing the overall efficiency of the garden. 🌿 Each month we will visit 1 of the 12 principles and show how we use them in our garden 🌿Permaculture just means permanent culture. This is what our Food Forest area is, our fruit trees, fruit bushes, herbs that once planted continue in that space growing together, like they would in nature.
