A heartfelt call to the focused application of awareness and targeted action in support of wellness. We demonstrate our capable magnificence in so many ways.

A dear friend posted a quote to their profile that would normally draw a 'like' or 'heart' from me, as such posts from those we love tends to do.

But this one exploded in my head when I read it...

Why this unquestioned need to constantly seek or always want to head towards some 'bright side'...?

It clearly bespeaks an implied terror in contemplating darkness.

It suggests a kind of resilience, sure, but one born in a mistaken belief in our inherent fragility... a fragility reinforced by trying to divorce ourselves from our less 'savory' parts... the un-beautiful, inconsistent, incoherent and seemingly 'broken' bits of ourselves we don't want to look at, or that work against the way our ego prefers to view ourselves and wants the world to see us.

We can maintain this only by expending enormous emotional energy...reframing or selectively viewing elements to find 'bright sides' (ie., outright gaslight ourselves), or otherwise pushing it out of sight, out of mind ... and into the dark.

Yet true courage bids us all to go deeper ...to explore our capacity for not just resilience but anti-fragility. This necessitates becoming comfortable looking at - yes, even befriending the shadow... watching how it moves and thinks... and asking what it needs...

And thereby coaxing it gently back towards the light, not leaving it in the dark.

This is not the freakish 'ugly twin' as our imagination warns us, but rather the dissociated, orphaned elements of our whole self, crying for acceptance and re-integration... and a closer look at what's going on in the world.

And this can only happen in light. 😘

Demonology — Michael Bazeley 21/12/2021

Contrary to popular belief...demons aren't the savage, cloven-hoofed devils of legend. They don't emerge frightfully from hell, clad in scales and flames, screaming for your death and damnation with savage, mortal blows to the heart.

I use my air time on The Kick to keep peeling down this onion, with words, music, thoughts and feelings, since forever. It's what drives me and why it is that I head down to the Radio Free Mind (aka., Radio Fremantle) bunker late on Tuesday nights, when most are either asleep or netflixing. This is kinda how I know that whoever the universe has delivered into earshot as I spin tunes and babble into the ether the way I do is meant to be there with me.

You see, over a period of years I made a journey into what turns out to be a singularity inside what I thought was me; a meandering venture into the murkiness that propped up my beliefs about… everything …and hit a kind of armour-plated desperation that sits, forever vigilant, at the gateway to the epicentre of it all, lest anybody turn that way and begin to probe.

And probe I did …and have …and do - and it turns out this is the gatepost at the centre of everything, actually - You may already be aware of it yourself - really hard to see when the tools you're prone to trying to use to look with were purposely forged to point in the wrong direction.

And even though once seen it can never be unseen, it is also the reason it can remain hidden, right out in plain sight as it is, with clues in abundance.

But it really is an EXCELLENT reason to go in search of a new toolkit and - although it didn't seem like it at the time - that's what I did, and am doing, and am sharing and this little passion project, The Kick, is part of that exploration… part of the retooling of my reality, to build peace bombs instead of pipe bombs.

I made that journey with a lot of effort - both direct and oblique - and driven by an existential urging I had had for the longest time yet didn't understand, receiving a lot of help and pointers from others who had made or were making similar journeys - and that's how I know why I need to put this out there, to anybody passing this way.

Because we are all in this together and giving it away is the only how I get to keep it.

The journey I'm talking about here is one that's often described in metaphors… such as 'a journey',…or even, "the Way," …or 'walking the path', or 'climbing the mountain', or 'crossing the river' … or 'finding God' …or 'awakening'.

And I'll lean in and puncture that particular bubble here and now by adding (in a loud voice) that taking the journey doesn't make anybody special, but is actually a blessed release from any need for 'special', because, tat tvam asi “that thou art”… same as everybody…as it turns out.

"...The trajectory for "good enough" is a life that is anything but good enough. It's the birthplace of dissatisfaction, cognitive dissonance, depression and the desire to be anywhere else but where you are. Even dead.

Wow…that's dark.

However, committing yourself to its opposite: to doing everything in your life to the utmost of your ability, then you are also establishing a new trajectory..."

The second episode of The Kick is now available to stream on MixCloud!

'Eternal Verities' is interwoven with music from Talk Talk, Portugal The Man, Michael Kiwanuka, Saint JHN, Rag 'n Bone Man, Sting, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Temper Trap, poetry and performance from some of Australia's foremost writers and thinkers, Alan Watts, Jed McKenna - and more.

…Oh…that's about everything, actually…

I pose questions (some existential!) and go looking for answers. Using evidence-based, psychology and philosophical tools I encourage listeners to look at our world, questioning our place in it - 'the whole life thing' - in the service of a more conscious, dynamic and purposeful living hygiene.

It's a party-for-one and I cordially invite you to join me, at your leisure…perhaps in the background while you're working or driving in your car. …?

Re-cut from the Radio Fremantle live show and uploaded to MixCloud, please join me for my first episode back after a two year hiatus. The Kick is a musical meandering, the return path from the long, dark night of the soul, accompanied by the thoughts and words of great thinkers and speakers, from the breadcrumb trails they left for us, in attempts to find a transformative 'living hygiene'.

Diversity is not just about race, culture, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender, my friends…it is also very much about mindset.

[EDIT: The Kick:Live-to-air (complete with "ummage" intact!) has moved to Tuesday nights on digital radio at 107.9FM, or online at http://203.59.4.85:8000/live]

From this Saturday, Mar 27, from 9:00 to 11:00pm AWST, The Kick debuts live and with all its 'ummage' (me, saying “ummm”) intact, on Radio Fremantle, at 107.9FM.

It takes its name from Christopher Nolan's seminal movie Inception, and in the movie was a musical device used by the dreamers to wake themselves from their dreams.

…So there's music! Woven through a bunch of my favourite tracks, old and new, I share the thoughts of some of humanity's notable thinkers and speakers, throughout time. I also intend to share useful resources I've found for clear thinking, honest feeling and purposeful action.

Once my workflow has been established and I'm comfy with the technical stuff, I intend to also invite interesting people to join me on air, for the delectation and delight of listeners as well as my own pleasure and edification.

In the meantime, if you know of, or are yourself, an interesting person and would like to have an on-air chat with me about you, then please email [email protected] (preferred), DM me in Messenger, or Insta me .

☝️☝️THE FACTS☝️☝️

👇👇TL;DR VERSION👇👇
I absolutely love to do words. The nugget behind that personal factoid is that I've learned over many years that the best way to understand what's going on, inside my own mind or anywhere, is to try and get it into words or on paper.

In fact, I've found that the very best way to process any situation or problem is to bring your entire focus upon it and ask questions until the words are transcended and it is understood, the issue is resolved or it just falls apart of its own accord.

Go figure.

Like anyone, I've spent my life acting impulsively because I was moved to in that moment, or just to see how it feels - for... 'kicks'. Known technically as "stupid s**t", so very much of it was unwise and imprudent. But much also turned out to be among the brightest, sparkliest jewels in the treasure chest of my experiences.

And like probably most, I've also spent literally decades wandering the long, dark night of the soul, wondering about the nature of the darkness, but also drawn towards any sources of light I happened upon, along the way.

As mentioned, I like questions - the juicier the better. So most of my life since I was a teenager has included studying and mulling over philosophies, psychologies, histories and following the breadcrumb trails left by our antecedents.

And while I readily confess to not feeling one bit smarter than when I started, I have to admit that I've also been stopped dead in my tracks by some things I've learned, left gobsmacked to try and process ideas that I've also then felt moved to share, off and on, even as I'm working through them.

In 2016 I had the opportunity to do that and started my own radio show. Knowing how I think and learn, it was a wonderfully purposeful way to process all this stuff and have some fun while I was at it. I called that show, "Releasing the Tiller", which ran chaotically for a year before swapping from Fridays to Tuesday nights, at which time I renamed it "Edge of The Abyss", because of where I was at. That ran haphazardly for another year before other things got in the way and I felt reluctantly compelled to stop.

Yada yada…and I'm back, baby!

Hopefully less chaotically, less haphazardly, but just as authentically exploring the inner spaces of the human experience. This is important to me, because my work has evolved and aligned better with my interests, to where I am now helping people directly with their needs for change.

And The Kick is now another way for me to continue to do that.

I hope you get time to check it out! (and make musical requests!)

Our Story

We are members of the most interesting and complex species in the history of the little blue planet. We demonstrate our capable magnificence in so many ways. But look around, at the visible downside of all our intelligence and the knowledge it generates, faster than our ability to skilfully integrate it with existing systems and cultures.

WHAT IF OUR EXPLODING GROWTH IN SO-CALLED 'KNOWLEDGE' ISN'T THAT AT ALL, BUT MERELY MASHED-UP DATA, PUSHED INTO SAUSAGE SKINS OF IDEOLOGY AND TWISTED OFF IN LINKS TO LOOK LIKE REAL MIND FOOD?

Why we continue to do this is testimony to a conversation we never had: about how the dominant social structures and the mythologies that keep them in place - the social contract - is broken.

IT'S TIME TO UNEDUCATE - AND THEN SEE WHAT ARISES NEXT.
