Iwalani Music
Iwalani is a musician, vocalist, songwriter, music producer, performing and teaching artist.
I started singing for kids in Children's Hospitals recently with an organization called Pickleberry Pie Hospital Concerts for Kids that provides FREE concerts for kids in hospitals! Lots of kids that love music that are in the hospital all the time and may not get access to live music-ever. The director said that 65-70% of the kid's families don't even visit. The kids are in their beds or wheelchairs, connected to tubes and IV bags most unresponsive but some are responsive! They might smile. Clap or sway. Some kids will engage in conversation. They are ages infants up to 22 years old! There are monitors beeping and nurses sitting nearby, coming in and out with their clipboards, checking their stats and machines. And I keep singing. The staff enjoy it, they clap and dance too a little bit. They told me they like my voice. ☺☺Pickleberry Pie Hospital Concerts for Kids raises funds to send out musicians from all over the country- like me (and compensate us!) to go sing and perform at different hospitals.
They also do virtual concerts for hospitals also. Put us on the screen for the kids! We just did a virtual fundraiser on YouTube Live with lots of great musicians that showcased their talent. People from all across the U.S. that sing for the kids. What an awesome variety of children's entertainers! I sang a song! Here's a screenshot! You can watch the replay of the 1-hour long concert benefit on their YouTube page. (I'm the second performer about 10-min into the video)
Here's the replay link

They are raising funds to keep sending performers out at no cost to the hospital.
Y'all may or may not know that my older brother Mayon Venerable was born with cerebral palsy and he was a kid that was in and out of children's hospitals his whole life. Our whole childhood. He has been in a wheelchair his entire life. I remember watching him in Physical Therapy when he was little. I remember when he was in a body cast for ever because he suffered from a broken hip during the special olympics basketball game cuz he and another kid rammed wheelchairs. I remember helping him in and out of his wheelchair after school everyday. I remember him being in the hospital so much. I feel for the kids and their families and also the doctor's and nursing staff that all help make the kids and families feel comfortable and safe. I am happy to bring some smiles and joy to them.
They are amazing for organizing this. And I am lucky to be equipped to do it. Much Love.

"Ready or not. Here I come. You can't hide!" 🥰😎🎶
Yup, had a nice little summer break from one of the schools I teach at on Fridays .oc
🤠Now we are back on for Fall music classes! 🍂🌳🎶🎸
I teach early childhood music classes everyday. I drive to schools and bring a little bit of music magic to their classrooms. Some indoors, some outdoors. Some small groups. Some big groups. Ages range from 2 years to 5 years old. I teach Monday through Friday mornings in Orange County. But I come from the Bay Area where I taught at one school in Berkeley (full-time) for over 10 years. I was able to build so many beautiful relationships with the kids and families there. Now I live in So.cal. still finding my footing here and I am independent now. On my own. I teach at many schools and drive from place to place. It's different. A little bit lonely because I don't have those same kinds of relationships that I once had with all the families of kids I taught. It's different when you are not in the classroom all day. But I'm thankful...I still teach music. This is a school I teach on Tuesday mornings. I like to bring a mix of instruments to my classes. Some days we sing guitar sing alongs. Other days we dance and move. Some days we sit still and listen to sounds we may have never heard before. I love showing young kids different kinds of instruments. They are always like 😲😀!!! Lol so fun. Then the best part of course is rockin' out with the instruments. This is what I love about small groups. There are enough of my small instruments to go around for each child to play. These instruments were mostly gifts that I've been given from kids, parents, my wife, my mom, friends, years of teaching and buying little instruments here and there during my travels. I love what I do. It is also very exhausting lol. Driving here driving there. Singing everyday. Dancing moving playing. Carrying all this stuff. But honestly it's extremely rewarding. I am thankful to have the energy and means to do what I do. Now I am looking to book more schools and events where I can bring my magical music style and teaching approach to more kids. The ultimate goal is to eventually open our own studio and school so I don't have to keep driving here and there and I can just be at one location. So for now here is a peek into my daily grind, which is also my love. Thanks for following my journey. 🥰

I hella miss my dad. He passed away when he was 56 years old. Wishing I could have known him in my adult years. Wondering what it would be like to see him at one of my shows, sing and jam with him, but we never got that chance. It's ok. I keep going and remember him when I play. Happy Father's day to all the dad's and positive men's role models.
A moment during music class at one of the schools I teach at in So.Cal🤠🎶😆💕🤣Sharing a humble laugh with one of the teachers! I always crack jokes during my classes because I'm really just a goofball underneath it all....🤪 It's always fun when I can make the teachers laugh! Lol Happy Weekend Peeps!🐥

When going live turns into a selfie photoshoot lol because....why not?🤷🏾♀️😅📸
😌Mental Health Awareness Month: I joined a coaching/accountability group a few months ago.🤩We have zoom calls multiple times a week and are required to write and evolve our self image everyday. Since moving to Southern California last year where I don't know too many people I was feeling a lack of community and started feeling very overwhelmed and stagnant in my work and music. No bueno.😫 Also....I wasn't excercising regularly, I wasn't journaling, I wasn't meditating. All the things to bring balance and alignment. I wasn't doing them and then wondered why I felt crappy. 🤷🏾♀️ I realized I needed a little extra support, a little motivation a little jump start and wanted to meet a community of people on a similar journey. So I found a group called the Visionary Community.✨ My coach and the other members of the group have been so supportive and inspiring. 😎I got a little kickstart in my confidence and am working through my own personal doubts, pushing past discomfort to reach my goals, changing the way I speak to myself and the language I use to express what I want. 🚫Removing certain negative phrases like "can't" and "don't" 🙏🏽Focusing on abundance and prosperity over fear and lack.🤌🏽
My mom used to sing to me every morning. "Rise it and shine it my Lani Pooh" she would rub my nose or forehead and wake me up with a sweet song. It would usually lull me back to sleep lol...she would have to wake me up 3 or 4 times. 🤣But the loving way she would do it everyday was something not lost on me as a child. I knew other kids were not getting that kind of love in the morning. Maybe some were but not like mine.☺️ My mom was such a special kind of mom. I'm so thankful for her to do all the mom stuff she did with us as kids. Ride bikes, take dance classes together, be silly, go on outings, chill at the park, read us books, do art together, laugh and love on each other. I'm thankful. She is always learning and growing after my Dad passed away, she kept on. After all her sisters passed away she preserves. After losing both parents she remains strong. She still cares for my disabled brother and still finds the time and energy to run marathons!! Whooo gurl, you betta get it!!! I get my strength, my love, my passion, my zest for life, silliness and big heart from her. Happy mother's day to the most loving mom 🌻I love you so so much!!!
Happy Mother's Day to my beautiful wifey/ fierce loving Momma to our beautiful pr***en child. You hold us down in more ways than you know! You feed our bellies and feed our souls. When I met you I had no idea that I would be a mom/co-parent with you and that we would walk this path together. Thank you for giving me this gift. Through all of our ups and downs you have been there for both of us, loving us, growing and striving for the best life for all 3 of us. I love you so very much. Thank you for everything you do. You are so brave for going after your dreams and staying true to who you are. Never giving up and pushing through so many adversities that would make others crumble. You are so talented and amazing. You deserve all the flowers now! Happy Mother's day baby. 🌼🌺🏵️🌻🌸😍❤️🥰☺️🌼🌺🌺🌻🌸❤️🥰🌺🏵️🌻

To wig or not to wig.....that is the question... This pic is from sooooo long ago. 11 years ago maybe?... From gig in San Francisco. When I was playing drums in the batería..used to play at nightclubs--wear fly costumes and represent carnival culture. Don't know where Monica got this wig but she said I should wear it during the show.
She called me "Bruce Lo-Lee Tah" and snapped this 📸 hahahahaaa I miss my silly town music buddy 😎🤌🏽rest in peace homie🕊️
