Wayfarer Prints is a business devoted to our love for travel and photography. We had decided to do something a little different for our honeymoon.
On January 20, 2009, fresh off our November ’08 nuptials, my wife and I threw caution to the wind and embarked on an epic, year-long honeymoon journey around the world. We weren’t looking forward to touching down in an exotic place and immediately dreading the return to “reality” seven to ten days later. No, we were putting our careers on hold. We returned the company car and laptop, smashed our c
ell phones, and traded the business attire for our passports and cameras. 2009 was not going to be 50 weeks of meetings and only 2 weeks of R&R. No, 2009 was going to be an adventure. This journey was going to be focused on personal growth through once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We weren’t focused on our next career milestone, but rather the next great place to see. With no kids in tow and an economy that was a shade darker than terrible, we’d decided there was no better time to hit the road. Having both traveled extensively in the past and having seen some of the magnificent things that the world can offer, we knew we were in for a fantastic voyage. What we didn’t know at outset, was that we would hit 26 countries by the end, befriend a pair of Masai warriors in Kenya, face Great White sharks in South Africa, raft the great Zambezi in Zimbabwe, chase down our ride out of Laos, be saved from Ramadan-induced starvation by a hospitable Egyptian family, or learn the specifics of Michael Jackson’s autopsy off of a gas station chalk board in the smallest registered town in Namibia. Most importantly, we could never know at the beginning, what an impact one little year could make. Our photography aims to share with others the adventures, people, places, animals and landscapes that mesmerized the two of us and forever changed our outlooks on life.
