Surround treatment on Diatone woofers.
Frozen Diatone woofers. Almost all of the Diatone speakers will suffer a frozen surround problem at some point. They are fitted with cloth surrounds, a material that will usually outlive foams or rubbers. In normal circumstances, cloth roll surrounds require very little or no maintenance, replacement is almost unheard of due to the long service life. Unfortunately, these Diatone woofers suffer a rather unique problem, apparently the surrounds were treated with a special coating to air-seal the porous material for acoustic control. The coatings eventually turned bad and hardened over time to a point that freezes the woofers. Attached video shows the before and after treatment was done to the woofers.
