A group of doctors have opened a new recuperative care unit and urgent care clinic located in the South Central community. It's called Vernon Recuperative Care Unit with access to a 24 hours Urgent Care Clinic which is Black-owned in Los Angeles County. Medical Director Dr. Cadrin Gill, M.D. and Clinic/Recuperative Care Administrator Dr. Robert L Jamison, Ph.D., and Rodeny Brown, Executive Consultant are the Principals and owners.

The recuperative care unit has 8 beds that gives their clients access to 24 hours medical care by board certified nurses such as RN's, LVN's and MA's with Medical Doctors on call. The urgent care clinic has multiple exam and procedure rooms for patients, including a Radiology Department equiped with Xray, MRI, and Ultrasound and once a patient is admitted, they are typically treated in less than an hour.

Walk-in treatment is available for various conditions including: scrapes, boils, bites, broken or fractured bones, minor burns, colds, coughs, pink eye, contusions, bruises, lacerations, joint dislocations, ear infections, and more.

Pharmacogenetic Testing May Change Psychiatric Treatments ADHD,Depression

Prescribing medications has long been a trial-and-error approach for nearly any medication you could take. That’s been especially true in psychiatry, where there are dozens of medications that could be prescribed for common mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

What if doctors had a better idea ahead of time which medications may work better for you than others, based upon your unique biology and biochemical makeup? They could then make prescribing decisions with a lot more knowledge, finding you a medication that would have a higher chance of working the first time.This process is called pharmacogenetic testing — and it’s time is fast approaching.

Pharmacogenetic testing is the process of examining a person’s unique genetic structure to help determine what medication will metabolize best within that person’s system. The idea of personalized medicine like this has been around since the 1950s. But it hasn’t been until very recently that such genetic testing became inexpensive enough to make it within reach to millions.

Today, if you go into your doctor and say, “Hey doc, I’m depressed,” she’ll run through the list of symptoms of depression and determine if you actually meet the diagnostic criteria for depression. After some additional questioning and a discussion about your treatment plan, she may decide to prescribe you an antidepressant. She’ll typically choose that antidepressant from a list of more than a dozen different varieties, largely based upon her own professional experience in prescribing these different antidepressants.

Will It Work For Me?

Your symptoms are a part of the equation, but they won’t answer the most important question you should have when being prescribed an antidepressant — will it work for me?

Because research shows that after your first antidepressant prescription, less than 1 in 5 people will experience a positive effect from that medication. That means the vast majority of folks — 4 out of 5 — will experience no or little relief from their depressive symptoms.

That’s because medications today are largely prescribed randomly, with little regard to your biochemical and genetic makeup. This means that what works for someone else may very well not work for you. In short, it’s a pretty horribly random way to practice medicine.

Services performed through AHC affiliates include those done through Vascular Centers of America (VCOA): echocardiography (echo), ABI, vascular scans of the aorta, carotid, renal, arterial, abdominal and venous. Trained technicians come to the physicians VCOA center to conduct testing while board certified radiologists and cardiologists read and prepare reports. Complete reports are then turned-around within three to five business days from the date of testing.

Common circulatory disorders are assessed through vascular and echo studies. Vascular and echo diagnostics are a valuable diagnostic modality for disorders such as: obesity, hypertension, high blood pressure, chest pain, abdominal pain, swollen limbs, pain in limbs, dizziness, and sensory loss in extremities.

Other services performed through AHC affiliates include those done through NeuroRad Diagnostic Centers (NDC): nerve conduction velocity (NCV) testing, musculoskelatal ultrasound, evoked potentials and needle EMG*. Trained technicians/physicians come to the physicians NDC center to conduct testing while board certified radiologists and neurologist read and prepare reports. Complete reports are then turned-around within three to five business days from the date of testing.

Common neuromuscular conditions are assessed through nerve conduction studies. Symptoms such as muscle spasms, weakness, and difficulty buttoning clothes, handling objects, or walking may also indicate the need for an NCV. Conditions that NCV testing helps diagnose include carpal tunnel syndrome, a pinched nerve, radiculopathy, sciatica, muscle diseases, neuropathies, muscular dystrophy, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and myasthenia gravis.

Additional services performed through AHC’ collegiate testing division, AHC, includes: vascular imaging and echocardiography. Trained technicians travel to colleges and universities to conduct non-invasive diagnostic testing on student athletes. Results are read and interpreted by board certified radiologists and cardiologists in preparation for reporting. Complete reports are then turned-around within three to five business days from the date of testing.

Coronary artery diseases can be assessed through vascular imaging and echocardiograms. Conditions such as Marfan syndrome, sudden cardiac arrest, valve disorders and myocarditis are leading causes of death among young athletes, and can be diagnosed utilizing vascular imaging and echocardiograms.
