Eating and drinking our way across Germany and Austria! We’ve been getting amazing food recs and home-cooked meals from venues, audience members, hosts, etc. and want to say thanks! The hospitality we’ve experienced on this tour is unmatched and has made it a little easier to be so far from home.

Just one week left on tour here, any final recommendations?

Having a great time here in Deutschland! Tonight we're in Nuremberg, then tomorrow we journey back east to Steyr. Just 8 shows left in Europe before we head back home for the holidays. Thanks to all the folks who have come out to see us play!

This past May, we had the chance to see Portland through James' eyes on a day off. He took us to all his favorite haunts to do all our favorite things – drink coffee, eat sugary breakfast treats, and walk (and swim!) in nature. We turned the footage into a video for Yellow, which you can check out below!

Unfortunately, due to snowy weather and difficult driving conditions, we’re unable to make it to Zürich tonight! So sorry to any folks who were coming to see us play, but hopefully we’ll be able to return soon.

Europe starts this week!

Getting on an airplane one week from today to fly to France, have a rehearsal with Daniel, drive to Germany for our first ever duo show in Karlsruhe and then pick up a Thanksgivinged Rodes Baby and drive all over Germany, Austria and Switzerland playing shows and going out for coffee and tasty treats. Daniel and I put out an instrumental album today using our solo monikers Sumner James and Z Pocket. It’s called Clarinet + Piano. Some records take a long time, this one didn’t, and we finished it 2 weeks ago. More rambles about how and why we made it on our Substack. It’s streaming everywhere and on cassette via Bathysphere Records (https://bathysphererecords.bandcamp.com). Very few cassettes remain if you’re in need of good vibes for your Walkman. I wrote a missive about the new instrumental album that Daniel and I made over on the Bombadil Substack. Our West Coast leg is complete! We’re flying home to play Winston-Salem Thursday at Gas Hill Drinking Room with Migrant Birds opening, Richmond, VA Friday at Get Tight Lounge, and Sunday in Asheville for a Robinette house show, which is open to the public. Join us!

The PNW is a real treat. We had the best donuts of our lives, re-enacted important scenes from teen vampire flicks, and swam in the Columbia. Today, we’re driving south to Talent, OR for a show at Rogue Dove, which will feature a dove release. That’s never happened to us before. Music at 7pm, come one, come all!

Our days off have concluded; we found inspirational mushroom guides, witch castles, Negronis and got to see Blake Mills (who was absolutely amazing). Tonight we’re in Kalama, WA at McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge playing from 6-9pm. We’ve got some deep cuts planned.

We’ve been enjoying our PNW days. The weather has been beautiful, the hikes have been stunning and the Thai food has been tasty. Shows kick back up tomorrow in Kalama, WA then on to Talent and Roseburg, OR. Then back to the East for shows in Winston-Salem, Richmond, Asheville, DC, and Durham amongst other glorious highlights.

Hello Durham! We’ll be playing Festival for the Eno River on July 4th. Excited to be back and to play a hometown show that my son can come to. Hope you’ll join us on the banks of the Eno. Stuart might kayak in.

Meeting babies, sipping delicious wines and looking at pointy trees, the PNW is delightful. We’re excited to return to Willamina, OR for a show at Oddfellows Pizza Co.. Music is at 6pm! Join us in Timbertown, USA.
