Optica Technical Group on Nonlinear Optics

Optica Technical Group on Nonlinear Optics

This group is concerned with the physics on nonlinear optical materials, new materials, nonlinear processes, and devices using nonlinear optics.

This is the page for the Optica Technical Group on Nonlinear Optics. On this page members of the Nonlinear Optics Technical Group and others can interact, socialize upcoming events and happenings, make suggestions for future events and projects, and generally bring benefit to the NLO community.

I would like to remind the event tomorrow 'Transitioning into a career in optics' during OPTICA FiO conference.

Lunch will be provided if you can register: https://bit.ly/FiO23OL

Date and time: 10th October 2023, 11:30 PDT (UTC-07:00)
Location: Room 317, Convention center, Tacoma, Washington, USA

The Nonlinear Optics Technical Group of OPTICA is arranging an in-person event during the upcoming Frontiers in Optics (FiO) Conference. We would deeply encourage you to join this activity while you are attending the FiO in October.

Often, researchers are so focused in their research that they do not spend a lot of time thinking how their skills could be useful in the workplace. In this panel, we will discuss what jobs could research in nonlinear optics enable.
The panel would consist of 4 members: 1 from the technical group council and 3 external experts : One from academia, one from the industry and one from government backgrounds.
The format would be as follows
- Introduction to the session and Short presentations by OL-TG council members
- Short presentations by experts outlining their career path
- 25 minutes of Q&A where the panel would answer queries that the audience may have

We are very pleased to announce the invited external experts are:
Dr. Adam Fleischer, National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), USA (Government)
Dr. Gabrielle Thomas, Menlo Systems, Germany (Industry)
Dr. Alex Gaeta, Columbia University, USA (Academia)

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Good Vibrations: Interactions Between Sound and Light in Nanophotonic Waveguides. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar. The interaction between electromagnetic and elastodynamic vibrations – between sound and light – has a long and distinguished history, dating at least from the work of Brillouin and Mandelstam in the early 20th century. More recently, researchers have begun to rediscover these interactions in th...

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Nonlinear Frequency Upconversion: A Novel Route for High-Sensitive Mid-Infrared Detection and Imaging. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar. The mid-infrared (MIR: 2 – 15 μm) spectral range has numerous applications in fundamental molecular spectroscopy to industrial testing, semiconductor processing and defense application. The detection of a MIR signal in the ambient atmosphere is especially challenging due to the high thermal noise...
