Roger Glenn St. John, Sr., age 58, passed away quietly on July 19, 2024, surrounded by family and friends, after a battle with stage 4 lung cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph St. John, his mother, Joan Jerousek (née Zwetow), his ex-wife, Amy (née Paeth), and his firstborn son, Roger Jr. He is survived by his younger son Logan, his siblings Ron, Ken, Suze, and Jenn, a plethora of nieces and nephews and their children, and his ‘Bestie’ Isabel Humphrey. He also leaves behind a myriad of friends, fans, and bandmates.

Roger was best known in the Phoenix area as a bass player for Skull Drug, Whiskey Famine, and Whiskey and the Barrels. He also sang, played bass, and served as co-frontman for the band, HAM, with inappropriate humor, wacky games, and overall shenanigans, including giving away an actual ham at every show. He was the co-creator and instigator of the Annual HAMMY Awards that were satirically (but lovingly) awarded to local musicians, from 2015-2020.

Born February 12, 1966, in Dearborn, Michigan, he had also lived in Lathrup Village, MI, Fountain Hills, AZ, Tempe, AZ, Galveston, TX, Boulder, CO, Las Vegas, NV, and most recently Phoenix, AZ. Through the years he worked in several restaurants and for many different print shops, and also ran his own printing business, Liberty Press. Roger loved children, animals, music, pretty women, and his family. He will be especially missed for his help on the Sunday crossword.

A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held on August 18th in Chandler, AZ. Details on the event can be obtained by contacting Suze St John through Facebook/Meta Messenger.
