The Willett Book Club will return for the 2024-2025 school year. We invite 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and their chosen adult(s) to join Mr. Fluetsch. Each month we will read a recently published novel and discuss it as a group.
Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 25 from 6:45 to 7:45 pm in the Willett Library.
The first novel will be "New From Here" by Kelly Yang. We have a number of copies available in the Willett Library.
More information about the Willett Book Club will be available near the start of the school year.
Summer Reading? Let the student lead! Need a couple of places to start? Here's the next Battle Book!
Here's our third Battle Book. It's one of Mr. Fluetsch's childhood favorites (one he was old enough not to be terrified of two of the pictures...)
Here's a sneak peek of our second Battle of the Books novel. The full list gets released on April 2!
Battle of the Books 2024 is coming to Willett! While the full titles of all 9 books will be released when we are back from Spring Break, I'll be posting some sneak peeks for the next ten days. How well do you know children's literature? Can you guess our Battle Books?
A big Thank You to Westside Spreading for making a big donation of books to the Willett Library!
Carl Hiaasen is best known for his adult novels, but for my money his middle-grade novels are superior. His most recent, "Wrecker," was published late last month. It is another fun read.
The novel takes place in Key West in the middle of the COVID epidemic. Wrecker is the nickname of the main character, a middle school student who would rather be fishing off his skiff or free diving old wrecks than following his mother's directions.
A chance encounter with a grounded speed boat and a side job cleaning graves in the local cemetary intersect to ensnare Wrecker with criminals who have found a new way of profiting from smuggling into the Keys.
Another great novel. I enjoyed it and will be adding it to the Willett library.
