We’re having a great time at Westchester Pride today! 🏳️🌈📚
We had a great time at our annual Rip Van Winkle awards dinner at Woods Tavern Bar & Grill. Our 2024 award went to Barbara Dee for her outstanding contribution to the world of children’s literature.
Our other awards went to:
Administrator of the Year: Rachel Koontz from Enlarged City School District of Middletown
Bea Griggs Memorial Incentive Grant: Sarah Malgioglio from Hommocks Middle School in Mamaroneck Union Free School District
Scholarship to attend this year’s NYLA SSL conference: Amanda Birro from Nyack High School
It’s our busiest time of the year! Which feels like a good time to talk a little bit about who we are and what we do. SLMSSENY is a professional organization made up of school library media specialists in southeastern NY. Our members serve school libraries in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties. We’re one of eight regional affiliates of the School Librarians Section of the New York Library Association.
Our staff and board are made up of volunteers who are passionate about the value of our school libraries. We’re a small team trying to do big things, and could always use support. If you’d like to give a tax deductible donation, you can do that here: https://slmsseny.wildapricot.org/page-18060
Why give to SLMSSENY? Your support helps us: ✅ Keep our membership rates low so we can be accessible to any local school librarian who would like to join ✅ Sponsor giveaways like the Stonewall Book Raffle in our last post ✅ Provide grants to our members that help support valuable projects and attend conferences ✅ Attend local events to promote literacy and school library love ✅ Host an annual awards dinner where we honor a local children’s book author whose work we love, and an outstanding school administrator who has made a huge difference in their school library that year.
We so appreciate the support of our work. ❤️📚
