Culture Food!

For the emotionally parched and chronically lonely, nostalgic food provides us the grounding of childhood nostalgia. Eating it on a kanhor thal (bell metal plate) adds to the bitter sweet gastronomic time travel.
I was slightly shocked to see that the plate had started catching dark spots. I am obviously not the most proficient at the upkeep of bell metal utensils. But seeing this shook me up from the slumber of not using it enough.
In the humid summer of 2023, I along with a friend found a shop in Uzan Bazar, Guwahati and bought this plate. I remember the UPI system not working and I had to scour the area for an ATM. I paid them in cash and flew back the next morning. Later that day, I received a notification that there was money deducted from my bank account. That's how I paid double for this plate and I had pledged to protect it with my life. I guess the novelty of owning it had worn off until I saw the spots.
I've been building this series for a few weeks. I almost did not want to post it. But the art you create has to complete its life cycle of reaching its audience.
Just me reminding you that perfection exists ig βΊοΈ

When the rain taps at your window it's time to cozy up inside and enjoy food from cute bowlsβsimple self-care at its best. Agree?
But which one is your favourite?
It's been 10 years in Mumbai: I knew the air felt a little different when the clock struck 12 last night. 10 years ago I moved to Mumbai to study at TISS. One degree and three jobs later, it has been quite a decade for me. They said I could not do it. I still remember someone firmly telling me that I would fall ill and I had no physical capacity to adjust to a city.
But here I am, not rich but at least there's a roof over my head, food to eat, clothes to wear (too many clothes to wear, have to give some away) and most importantly debt-free. Sometimes a lifetime passes by yearning for someone to say "Well done!". But I've made peace with it, some of us just have to be our own caregivers and cheerleaders. What is life, if not an assortment of pain and suffering? But, let's focus on the learnings and the pockets of happiness for now. I know in the core of my being if I was not in Mumbai, I would be struggling mentally and career wise. I'm just grateful that it squeezed me in somehow. I yearn everyday for it to feel more permanent, which it never does. It's never meant to, I guess.
Dumps π© of happiness!

Hello! No nazar okay!
I'm here for the food (and the kopi). Kuala Lumpur is a culinary tapestry. From the old to the new, from the spice to the rice with a side of history at every bite. I am overwhelmed but happily so.
