Minimum Qualifications
A candidate must have at least one of the following:
Education: Associates degree or 60 credit hours from a recognized college, university or technical institute with major study preferably in criminal justice or the equivalent.
Experience: No experience required.
Or
Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience: Two years of experience comprised of any one of the following:
One year as a full time certified police officer and one year of honorable military service, either intermittently or full time, or
Two years as a full time certified police officer, or
Two years of honorable military service, either intermittently or full time.

Seen here is an LPD member of the Southern NH Special Operations Unit, a specialty unit comprised of officers from around the region. While the SOU doesn't get called out on a daily basis, they train extensively and are a tremendously skilled group of officers that can respond in high risk situations that expand beyond the scope and abilities of the average patrol officer.
The officer seen here is the same officer you see shaking hands at local businesses and handing out LPD stickers to kids. When called to a high risk scenario, we make sure that our officers have the protective gear and equipment to keep you and them safe.
