The PANCAKE DAY is coming! It always falls 47 days before Easter and this year it is on Tuesday, February 13th.
PANCAKE DAY OR SHROVE TUESDAY - Across the UK pancake races take place - people run with frying pen flipping pancakes.
Restaurants offer pancakes with a variety of fillings. Fancy Nutella, jam or maple syrup? The choice is yours.
"SAVE UP FOR A RAINY DAY" is the expression used when we want to say that one has to put some money aside (save) for the time when they have some financial difficulties (e.g. they lose their job, they have some unexpected expense; something big to repair, ...).
Here in the UK Christmas and New Year's period is a big thing. Huge amounts of food are bought, tons of money spent on presents and then, when it is all over, and the new year comes, we promise to ourselves we would do everything differently. It usually refers to eating healthier food, drink and smoke less, exercise more etc - we make new year's RESOLUTIONS.

It is starting to feel really "Christmassy" here in Swansea; the glamorous city decorations are on, the enchanting "Winter Wonderland" has opened its doors; the shops are full of inviting, shiny Christmas staff. You simply CANNOT RESIST feeling happy, joyful and full of expectations for the days leading up to December 25th. It all brings out the child in us, the one who still believes in magic.

RUN OUT OF SOMETHING means that you use all of something that you have had e.g. money, food, patience,... so there is nothing left.
We'd better go shopping. We ARE RUNNING OUT OF milk.
When I RUN OUT OF money, I ask my parents for help.
We are RUNNING OUT OF TIME.
to CATCH UP WITH SOMEBODY OR SOMETHING means that
a) you will feel the consequences at some later point
b) you will update the missed out time, work or distance later.
Lack of sleep will CATCH UP WITH me sooner or later. I need more sleep or I will end up sick.
I'm meeting my friend after a month. We have a lot to CATCH UP WITH.
to WALK OUT ON somebody means to suddenly end a relationship with them (usually your wife, partner or girl/boyfriend).
After 12 years of marriage she WALKED OUT ON her husband. She simple left one Sunday morning.
