The excitement we felt when we created Ada was palpable. We’ve always firmly been on the “wrap dress is a dress” wagon, until we realised a wrap dress can make a pretty good overlay. With the onset of monsoons, as evenings get a wee bit cooler, we must admit that a wrap dress as a light overlay is beginning to feel like a great idea.

It took me only six months to edit these shots taken on a cloudy day with the very talented Mridu.. Mridu layered our Fern Wrap Dress over the Arden Khadi Dress for this picture.

Our Hester Dress is made from surplus stock sourced from a local denim manufacturer. Using dead-stock fabrics helps us reduces textile waste (in our own small way), where surplus fabric and scores more of it from factories would usually end up in landfills. Is this the most sustainable option? Surely not. But is working with dead stock better than doing nothing? If we had to write a letter to our past, we'd surely say what Kafka once said - "I miss you deeply, unfathomably, senselessly, terribly." It was not perfect, but there was an illusion of control, a semblance of sanity that we held on to. When we make products in small batches, the intent is for every collection to be an “affordable limited edition” collection. There are 2 people involved in the making of every dress you own - our master, who cuts the fabric as per the pattern & our tailor, who stitches the dress in its entirety. We sometimes take the help of a third person to finish some of the smaller elements (like sewing buttons or embroidery).

This is a deeply personal process, almost like our tailoring team is handing over their labour of love to you. And when we say these dresses are handmade with love, we know exactly whose hands made your clothes.

Details that matter: we added slits to the side of these tiered frills on the dress for ease of movement & for some happy flounce while you moved. We also kept the contrast fabric subtle, so the dress would be easily to pair with your existing accessories.
When dresses are simple & comfortable, they adapt to the needs of the wearer who then chooses how best to wear the dress.
