Does anyone need a queen size futon (mattress only)? It’s 50/50 organic wool and natural latex, so on the firm side. 9 years old and regularly rotated, good condition. Must come get it.

Now that’s funny 😆

On March 22, 1976 — The California Angels’ groundskeeper finds hundreds of ma*****na plants growing in the outfield at Anaheim Stadium. The culprits? Most likely rock fans who attended a recent performance at the stadium by The Who.

Only ten years old at the time, The Big A recorded its largest crowd ever when 55,000 stomping and screaming fans jammed the baseball facility to see Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey play their classic hits, leaving ten tons of litter for stadium workers to clean up in its aftermath.

More than just litter, stadium officials estimated to the LA Times that about 100 ma*****na plants sprouted in the outfield as a result of the concert. Mayor William J. Thom quipped, “The economic situation at the stadium has not reached such a perilous point that we have to resort to growing ma*****na.”

As manager of Anaheim Stadium, Tim Leigler, put it at the time, “What we’ve got out here is grass in the grass.”

Thinking of Garth Hudson from The Band. After a Blackbird Presents Last Waltz show in 2017, I had a meal with Garth and his recently-departed wife, Sister Maud Hudson. I asked Garth what he thought of during his brilliant improvisations. He said, “songs I heard from my Mother.” He mentioned Ethel Smith and I found her on YouTube and played it for him at the table. His smile lit up the world. https://youtu.be/DvCis_JktXI

The secret Capitol sessions:

Paul McCartney always said that The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album was a big influence on "Sgt. Peppers" Well more of an influence than you think.
When they started planning out the album, The Beatles thought why not use the same musicians that played on The Beach Boys album. So in early 1967 John, Paul, George, Ringo, and producer George Martin secretly flew to Los Angeles, and started recording the album with members of The Wrecking Crew. All of the session players, and engineers had to sign a non-disclosure agreement that they would never talk about the session, nor would they receive any credit for playing on it.

Awhile back AFM session sheets were discovered for the Sgt. Peppers sessions at Capitol Studios in Hollywood where the recording was done.

By putting together the info from the sessions, personnel on the album were:

Lead vocals - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Richard Starkey
Background Vocals-The Ron Hicklin Singers
Drums-Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer
Bass- Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn
Guitars- Tommy Tedesco, Louie Shelton, Barney Kessel, Billy Strange, Glen Campbell
Sitar-Mike Deasy
Keyboards- Larry Knechtel, Don Randi, Mike Melvoin, Mike Rubini
Percussion-Emil Richards, Gary L. Coleman
Harp-Gale Levant
String- The Sid Sharp Strings
Horns- Jim Horn (sax, clarinet), Plas Johnson (sax), Ollie Mitchell (trumpet), Roy Caton, (trumpet)

The album was engineered and recorded by Chuck Britz, and Bones Howe.

The tapes were then taken by to London for mixing and mastering.
