Here's a lick to challenge your rhythmic timing. Think you've got chops? Try the first bar/tap off. Let's see how fast and accurate you can get this lick!
Check out this Three's Exercise! The idea behind this exercise is being able to engage the "gun" (middle finger, pointer finger and thumb), which will allow for open Three strokes. The reason the 16th note Three Strokes are there is to make sure that each stroke is open and not crushed before attempting the triplet based Three Stroke!
Give it a shot!

Here is another great exercise that works on the three strokes! It is a slight variation on 7/8 paradiddle by using eggbeaters and doubles. When playing this exercise, the player will have to maximize the different areas of the hand, depending on the tempo, to keep the three stroke in time! Additionally, the exercise is written in 16th notes, to maximize timing from the 3's to 2's without having to focus on any timing modulation. Happy Practicing!
Haven't heard of 7/8 Paradiddle? Check out http://rudimentallickoftheweek.weebly.com/paradiddles.html to learn this exercise and many more paradiddle exercises!

Thanks for the lick! It would be great to see video of you playing it!
Music notes:
The notes above and below the line in the last bar is back sticking btw!
A little holiday fun for you all!
Want to develop better control of the stick in addition to better timing? Then practice this "Moving Fulcrum" exercise. If achieved correctly, the player will feel a shift from the back of the hand to the front with each new variation transitioning to a different metric unit. This will ultimately allow for the player to develop a better understanding of timing and when to use the back, middle and front of the hand in different passages!
