The Teal Emu
Welcome to The Teal Emu!
And let's not forget - when it comes to Valentine's, we do silly, we do snark, we can even do anti-Valentine's tumblers!
And let's not forget - when it comes to Valentine's, we can create something to match every personality! 😉❤️
Valentine's tumbler on the turner - there's still time to get yours ordered!
Tumblers have been received, so now I can share! I created a couple of legacy tumblers of a Scottsburg legend for two very special ladies.
Self-adhesive glossy photo paper makes it easy to capture those special moments on a tumbler. If you are looking for a way to commemorate a special occasion, trip, or even person, we can create a design for you to love and cherish for years to come!
Working on a dragonscale tumbler - and it was only AFTER I got all the scales on that I realized there was a quicker, easier way of doing them. I'll have to keep that in mind for the next one!
I'll get another coat on this one tonight, and tomorrow I'll apply a gorgeous water slide decal that I picked out - add a final coat, and this one will be done!
Back into the swing of things after the holidays. I'm currently working on a couple of very special tumblers - but I can only offer a nondescript sneak peek at this time. Watch here for a full reveal in a few weeks, once they have been gifted to the recipients!
It's been a little quiet on this end for the past week or so. I had some EPIC resin disasters that left me frustrated - I was testing out a different brand of fast cure resin that TOTALLY screwed up a couple of tumblers in an order, as well as one of my personal tumblers, so I was working to get everything redone and caught up. Now things are back on track, and I am cranking out a few more orders - I have two on Tina right now that I am looking forward to showing you, but I need to wait until they are delivered tomorrow!
For those who know, I'm a big ancestry buff - I'm proud of my roots. Over the years, I've learned how long ago my ancestors first came to this county (I'm a 12th generation American) - and even more so, I've learned how deep my roots run in Indiana. My ancestors on both sides settled there, in many cases before Indiana was even a state - and over the generations, their progeny had a tendency to remain there.
This tumbler honors my family tree, particularly those roots that are deep in the Indiana soil. I created the design using vinyl printed in a birch tree bark - the "stripes" of names at the top and bottom are just a few of the surnames of my Indiana ancestors from my maternal and paternal sides, respectively.
While I had a couple of orders on the turners tonight (we'll be building my turner box tomorrow, so I won't be quite so limited! YAY!!), I worked on and completed a design for a new one that is very special to me. I'll get it on the turner tomorrow morning, and then post a video - I'm excited to show you guys this one!!
I'm handing these off to the customer this evening, but I wanted to share a picture of the finished tumblers. Each one ending up taking 3 coats of resin after the designs were put on, but they are all now smooth and shiny and ready to delight!
Designs have been completed on all four, and they are just pending resin. Twenty-five little grinchbabies in all - with twenty-five names.
In the morning I'll pop on my logo sticker and a QR code, and get these on the turners. Almost at the finish line!
Now for the designs on the back part of the tumblers. I went with an easier one (with only three grinchbabies, as opposed to the one with nine) first, to see how everything would work out. I had a Grinch Christmas ornament svg - it was outline, so I hid all the unnecessary contours, and just left the ornament - and designed everything to go with it. The baby Grinches are png files, so I utilized Cricut's print then cut feature - they are printed on vinyl sticker paper, and then the Cricut cuts them out - which is probably my FAVORITE Cricut function yet.
Once everything was cut, I layered all the different elements, and then applied them to the tumbler. This one is now ready for (what I hope will be) the final coat of resin.
Had to work through some layering issues - but once I got everything figured out, I've managed to spend the day picking and layering and applying the front designs on these tumblers. They are turning out to be SERIOUSLY adorable!!
While I've been working on getting the white glittered tumblers through their initial two coats in order to begin working on the design, I've also been finishing up some of my works in progress. Finally completed the design on my personal pool tumbler and now it's on the turner - I was hoping this would be the last coat of resin, but I think it's going to take an additional coat before it will be finished. Applying my patches was a nice touch - even if it was a MAJOR undertaking that required Tack-it, lots of Mod Podge, some Liquid Fusion, a lot of tape to hold the edges down while everything dried, and an ungodly amount of cursing!
I'm working on a new order of four (mostly) matching tumblers, and I thought I'd take you guys along for the ride to see the process.
I start with a stainless tumbler, give it a quick sanding and wash, then throw on a quick coat of spray paint+primer - it keeps the stainless from showing through.
In this case, I've covered the tumblers with a coat of glitter glue, and then covered them in white glitter.
Once dried, I sprayed a couple of layers of triple thick, to ensure that the glitter stays where I want it to when I resin it. Don't want patchy spots!
Next is the resin - here, I've mixed silvery white mica powder in with the resin. I want to give the tumblers some extra shimmer and shine. Fine glitter, such as the cut that I used on these, has a tendency to soak up the resin - so I'll have to give these a sanding and another coat (possibly two) after this coat cures.
So while I work (and wait!) through all the resin steps, I'll go ahead and start working on the design.
Amazing! The holographic glitter and design really make this one eye-catching!! ❤️❤️
I updated the description on the Voodoo Doll tumbler - this has been sold, but if you like it or the base design, you can order one like it!
