Hike for Health with CVCH and CDLT

The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and Columbia Valley Community Health invite you to hike for your healt

09/06/2020

Hello all,

We have some sad news - Together, CVCH and CDLT have decided to cancel this year's Hike for Health series.

We don't want to give folks a reason to recreate with those outside of their own household for the foreseeable future. For that reason, we've decided to cancel the 2020 Hike for Health in the hopes of coming back in 2021, bigger and better! Because of this, we will not be holding an end of year celebration or raffle this year.

We do hope that you are able to enjoy the peace of nature and get some exercise over the next few months. If you're looking for somewhere to explore, we recommend trying out one of the hikes we had on our calendar this year:

Walla Walla Point Park and Horan Nature Area (2 miles)
Reach 1 Trail on the Chelan River Trail (2.2 miles)
Saddle Rock (2 miles)
Ski Hill (4 miles)
Echo Ridge Outback Loop above Lake Chelan (3.7 miles)
Castle Rock (2.5 miles)
Lake Clara (3 miles)
Dry Gulch (2.4 miles)

You can also use WenatcheeOutdoors.org, WTA.org and cdlandtrust.org to seek out new hikes and current trip reports.

Please stay tuned for the 2021 Hike for Health Series! We're looking forward to it!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to [email protected]. Thanks everyone.

Take care,

CDLT & CVCH.

UPDATE: With everything that is happening concerning the COVID-19 virus (CORONA VIRUS), CVCH has decided to cancel the first hike of the Hike for Health Series. As a safety precaution, and to limit the spread of the virus, large group gatherings are being discouraged at this time. However, we do encourage that you and your loved ones still find time to get outside to enjoy the sun and get some exercise. As of right now, the May 9th hike is still on the agenda. Thank you for your support and we apologize for any inconveniences.

To prevent the spread of any germs, please remember to practice safe and effective hand washing and sanitation techniques. Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend everyone!

See you this morning at the Saddle Rock Trailhead for the last Hike for Health of the year! CVCH and CDLT will be there, rain or shine! We are looking forward to the hike up Dry Gulch.

Hello everyone!

We will come full circle this month with our final hike at Dry Gulch! We hope to see you at the third Saturday hike on Saturday, October 19 from 9-11 am! This will be our last hike, so we will be having a lunch, raffle & giveaways after the hike, starting around 11:00. We will be at the Saddle Rock Trailhead for lunch.

Please note: Originally we had planned to hike up Saddle Rock. The Saddle Rock Natural Area is under construction right now – it’s cleaning up the waste from old mines, so that one day we can have a beautiful new trail system there! We are substituting a walk up Dry Gulch instead.

Name: Dry Gulch Preserve

Distance & Elevation: 2.4 miles out and back. Elevation gain: 610 ft. This hike takes about 1-1.5 hours.

Description: Walk along the wide gravel road (no cars allowed, only hikers and horseback riders) to the large dam, and then follow the same route back to your car. Views of Wenatchee, Saddle Rock, and interesting rock formations are visible along the way. You can also see signs of the old gold mine, which was active until 1994.

How to get there: Here is a map. The parking area for Dry Gulch is the same as for the south side of Saddle Rock (the new, large parking area at the end of Circle Street). Head south on Miller until it turns into Circle Street. Follow Circle Street to the right until you reach the parking area. There are bathrooms, water fountains and covered picnic tables at the parking area. The entrance to Dry Gulch is across the parking area from the bathrooms.

Dogs: Dogs are allowed on leash. Please pick up after your pet.

Strollers: The route we will take at Dry Gulch can accommodate jogging strollers. It’s a gravel road. However, be aware that conditions might be muddy.

Third Saturday Hike: October 19, 2019. Check in any time between 9-11 AM at the booth at the trailhead. If you’d like to join the Land Trust for the guided hike, be prepared to leave from the trailhead a few minutes after 9 am.

Thank you so much for joining us, and please let us know if you have any questions!

OCTOBER 19 UPDATE: We will walk up the Dry Gulch Trail - the Saddle Rock Trail will be closed due to the trail improvement project. We will meet at the Saddle Rock Trailhead for check in before, and for food and raffle afterwards!

We apologize for having to repeat a trail - but we're excited about the future of Saddle Rock.

Hello everyone,

This month’s hike is to the Coyote Dunes Natural Area from the 27th Street parking area on the Apple Capitol Loop Trail in East Wenatchee. We hope to see you at the third Saturday hike on September 21 from 9-11 am!

Name: Coyote Dunes Natural Area

Distance & Elevation: 2.8 mile, 1-1.5 hours. The paved trail stays along the river, so there’s not much elevation gain.

Description: This is an easy walk along the eastside Loop Trail. Most of the walk is paved, but if you would like to visit the beach, that will be on sandy paths. Beautiful views of the Wenatchee Foothills, interesting rock formations, and a chance to dip your toes in the river.

How to get there: Park at the 27th Street Parking area near East Wenatchee. Click here for a Google map.

Dogs: Dogs are allowed on leash. Please pick up after your pet.

Strollers: Most of the route is on the paved Apple Capitol Loop Trail and is appropriate for strollers. However, the last little bit to the beach is on sandy paths, which would be pretty unpleasant with wheels. If you chose to turn back without heading to the beach, you could use your stroller.

Third Saturday Hike: September 21, 2019. Check in any time between 9-11 AM at the booth at the trailhead. Ash from North Central Regional Library will be leading the guided hike this month. If you’d like to join her for the guided portion, be prepared to leave from the trailhead a little after 9 am.

If you can’t make it to the Third Saturday Hike, don’t forget to email [email protected] with photos of you or your team on the trail to get your raffle ticket, or post your photos to social media with the hashtag .

Thank you so much for joining us, and please let us know if you have any questions!

This month’s hike is to the Land Trust’s Stormy Creek Preserve in the Entiat River Valley. It’s a great chance to explore a new spot. I’ve attached a photo of the meadow in springtime! Afterwards, go for a picnic up at Silver Falls! We hope to see you at the third Saturday hike on August 17 from 9-11 am!

Name: Stormy Creek Preserve
Distance & Elevation: 1 mile, 1-1.5 hours. The informal trail stays along the river, so there’s not much elevation gain.
Description: This is a short walk through a meadow and next to the Entiat River. After the meadow, feel free to explore as you like. Since August is hot, we decided to keep this one short, sweet and easy.
How to get there: Click here for a Google map. From Highway 97-A, turn west onto Entiat River Road. In 16.9 miles, turn left on an unmarked dirt road, which is the road just past the entrance to Stormy Creek Lodge. In 280 feet, take the right fork in the road, which leads to the parking area.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed on leash at Stormy Creek. Please pick up after your pet.
Strollers: Since the trail is pretty informal, and much of the fun is exploring the riverbank, this is not an appropriate spot for strollers.
Third Saturday Hike: August 17, 2019. Check in any time between 9-11 AM at the booth at the trailhead. Heather from North Central Regional Library will be leading the guided hike this month.
