Signed on to my account with FamilyTreeDNA and discovered that they are "retiring" their tree building tool as of September 9, 2024. They are urging everyone to transfer their tree to MyHeritage before that date. The transfer is free but I haven't investigated whether continued tree building services will be free or not! Personally, I already have a condensed tree on MyHeritage and don't intend to expand it.
One of the great things with the tree on FTDNA was that one could connect DNA matches to the tree once those individuals were identified. The DNA matches reflected whether an individual was on the maternal or paternal side. I don't know if this is possible on the MyHeritage trees. I already have subscriptions to Ancestry and FindMyPast so see no need to take on yet another subscription to MyHeritage when most of my document search results pull my already existing information from those sites as well as from FamilySearch.

I have now used this service and I am absolutely thrilled with it! I've purchased two birth certificates and 6 death certificates. All are exactly in the format and contain all the information as would be shown on the formal certified certificate.
For those who haven’t caught up with the news, the GRO (General Register Office – UK) have made available digital images of registrations for UK births (1837- 1922) and deaths (1837-1887). Instant access is available for £2.50. Up until now the best access has been via a PDF file at a cost of £7 with a four day wait for download. Here is a link to the latest LostCousins newsletter that sets out everything you need to know about this new initiative from GRO.

Here's an update on the 1931 Canadian census for all of you who have ancestors and relatives that emigrated. The 1931 Canada Census is up and running well. Ancestry put its' AI indexing to work on it at the beginning of June and now most of the census is completely indexed! They say it's still a work-in-progress for the indexing but today I have found all my ancestors and relatives, including my mother, in Toronto using the index with very few hiccups. I will say, though, that the search works better from the general search of collections rather than going to the card catalogue for just the 1931 census.
For more information about the release see

For those of you who might have ancestors or family members that emigrated to Canada you might be interested in this news. The 1931 Canadian Census has now been released! It is available to browse for free on the Canadian Archives website. It is also available with a subscription to Ancestry.com and MyHeritage. It is not yet indexed! So, you will need to have a fairly good idea as to where your ancestors were living on the 1st of June of, 1931.

The parish page has undergone a revamp with all links updated. I've also updated the Kent OPC pages that link to it into the current format. It appears there are a few issues with the tables on those pages but they display fine. It's an aesthetics problem that I'll work on tonight. Enjoy!
