We do not have to struggle and wonder about the tithe. Melchizedek was before Levi; and, Abraham was a Gentile. God chose him out from among the heathen, and Melchizedek received tithes way before the law, and long before Israel, Jacob become a nation. It is true; the tithe is no longer under the law; but, the tithe predates the law, so, the tithe is back under faith. This is why God attached a promise to it, that is, to all who believe and prove him therein. Paul said, what came before the law, is, not, now, canceled because of the law. Now, that the law age is fulfilled in Christ through the gospel, this puts the tithe back under faith. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Jacob was commanded to tithe, however, he tithed by faith, in keeping with the faith and practice of his grandfather Abraham. Why? Because, before the law, the tithe, was practiced by those who believed and were in a covenant relationship with God. Now, we are no longer under Levi; we are now under the Priesthood of Melchizedek who receives tithes. Now, Paul, connected the New Testament gospel, not to Moses, but to the faith and practice of the patriarch Abraham. Again, the law cannot cancel, what, came before it!! The tithe is a faith response for all those who believe and are a part of this New Covenant gospel, prefigured and foreshadowed by our father Abraham’s covenantal response to God, when he believed and tithed. All of this is by faith; many fail to understand that, before the law was, there was Abraham and the tithe. The tithe meant many things to Israel; notwithstanding, today, the tithe is still valid and in operation through faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the new covenant Melchizedek, who receives tithes and, it, the tithe, is a part of our New Covenant’s faith response. Remember, if the first Melchizedek received tithes, and Christ is now a high priest in the order of Melchizedek, it is safe to assume and believe that Christ also receives tithes, not through the old Mosaic code, but, the rule of faith.
