The Impact of Alternative Grade Configurations on Student Outcomes through Middle and High School 23/08/2022

Hey Neighbors,

Below is the most urgent update regarding IPS School 91. Please see the information below that our neighbor, Anderson, shared on Facebook.

School 91 is the reason a lot of people moved into this neighborhood. Closing this school would drive a lot of people to leave, gift us with an empty un-maintained building in the middle of our neighborhood, and disrupt the growth this neighborhood has seen. Even if you don’t have a kid in our school, please help us keep our neighborhood school.
Dear 91 School Community,
If you're not already aware of some of the IPS administration's proposed changes to our school system under their Rebuilding Stronger agenda https://myips.org/rebuilding-stronger-community.../), they include (but are not limited to):
- Reconfiguring all K-8 schools to go through the 5th grade only.- Create new, stand alone middle schools for 6-8th grades. Currently, there is no plan for how Choice school curriculums (like Montessori) would be handled and whether there would be a Montessori track for these grades.
- Close schools with poor facilities ratings (School 91 is currently rated in poor condition).
As you can imagine, Rousseau McClellan Montessori stands to undergo some significant changes should the IPS Board pass this plan in October. The 91 MPTA urges all our school community members to attend the upcoming August IPS Board meeting to share your thoughts and concerns. The district is presenting a final draft plan of these changes to the board sometime this month so time is of the essence. See below for board meeting details and how you can participate.

This is huge!

I am very excited to share that Indianapolis has received $5 million for the Nickel Plate Trail and Fishers has received $4.5 million! These funds come from the Next Level Trails program, which I was proud to advocate for with a budget amendment to increase funding by $60 million which helped make today's grant possible! I also want to thank my colleagues Rep. Carey Hamilton, and Councillor Dan Boots, for their hard work on this issue. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of volunteers and the work of BRAG - Binford Redevelopment and Growth, Inc. Thank you for your efforts!

FYI

Over the next year, Broad Ripple Village will undergo a construction facelift to provide much needed improvements to our infrastructure including wider sidewalks, increased lighting, and sewer/stormwater capacity adjustments. While this construction will present challenges to vehicular access to our area, we are working closely with the Department of Public Works to anticipate and respond to as many of those issues as possible. We will continue to share information through emails and social media as we have receive it.
