The sadness and anger that another young life is gone to the terrible disease that is cancer, and is DIPG. We need more research which will lead to more cures.

Finn began his journey to be with Jesus yesterday. We are so proud of him. He fought so hard and with such tenacity. I know alot of families say their kiddo never complained, well, this guy kicked and screamed through the entire process, and it makes me laugh when I think about it. He hated when I would say this, but I always told him... you're going to be that old man throwing your bed pan at the nurses. I just love him so much.

We have so many messages to get to still. At this time, we just want to be still and quiet with our sweet boy. We will keep everyone updated. Thank you everyone. God bless you all.🙏✝️🙏

With the festive season just around the corner what better way to celebrate than with a tree that is all Libby! Soccer and red with Mr Ted and Ms Snow watching over, and let's not forget her famous Red Converse!
A huge thank you to Blades Of Green for sponsoring our tree at the Lights of Kindness Event organized by South Anne Arundel County Rotary Club.
In its 10th year, Lights of Kindness connects local businesses and a wide variety of non-profits to celebrate the season, bring good cheer - and, of course, raise some $$$.
So how does it all work? The trees (32 in all) will be on display from 1st - 3rd December at Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville At the event you can, for $1 each vote, vote for your favorite tree (of course ours!). The more $$$ the more votes you get! Honestly, there are some great organizations and some wonderfully decorated trees so if you can, come and take a look! And of course vote for us in the end :)
Now we know not all of you are close by.... don't worry, you get to join in too! You can see all the trees and vote online until 4pm December 4th at:

What a great day, and what great support! Mr Ted took an early lead, being up by two miles by the time the early morning teams were through. No matter how Ms. Snow tried to fight back Mr Ted's lead was too much and he once again topped the podium with 37.5 miles compared to Ms Snow at 34.28. They would not have made it without all the help that kept them moving. A quick count of the days taking meant we could get the money donated into Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and get the Volvo donation match! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us! The research that this money will go to support is the only way that we will ever see an end to Childhood Cancer! The bears are now taking a well-earned break... but dont worry, they'll be back!

30/09/2023

It’s a beautiful day, so Mr. Ted stops to smell the flowers along the trail. Will he hold onto his lead over Ms. Snow? Only time will tell…

We’ll be here at Davidsonville Park until 7:00 p.m., so there’s still time for you to join us! Are you Team Ted or Team Snow?

28/09/2023

The weather is looking great for Saturday and Mr Ted and Ms Snow are ready to get out there and get those miles in for such a great cause! Being Teddy Bears they need your help, so sign up for a slot to keep them moving.
All money raised will go through Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Million Mile challenge to support Childhood Cancer Research. It cannot be underestimated how devastating the impact of childhood cancer is on the child, families, and communities. Many children, even if they fully recover, have lifelong health issues.
Please join us and raise much-needed money for research into Childhood cancer

Mother Nature always likes to keep us on our toes.... and for tomorrow she is telling us that it is not safe for bears (and their carriers) to be out. We have, therefore, made the hard decision to reschedule.

NEW DATE - Saturday 30th September!

So recheck your calendars and come and join us on 30th September and help Mr. Ted and Ms. Snow compete in aid of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Million Mile Challenge. Particularly the Brain and Eye Tumor Lab team at Johns Hopkins that continues to work with Libby's cells and other important childhood Cancer research.

16/09/2023

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that only a very small fraction of government spending on Cancer Research goes to childhood cancers? That's why private money is so important if we are ever going to find cures.
Join us on 23rd September for Mr Ted's Relay, where 100% of the money raised will be funneled through Alex's Lemonade Stand to The Brain and Eye Cancer Laboratory at Johns Hopkins. Mr Ted and Ms Snow will be competing to see who can complete the most miles in a day. But they are teddy bears, Libby's Teddy bears, so need your help. Sign up for a slot to help keep the bears moving at https://www.laceemupforlibby.org/5th-annual-mr-teds-relay

It is days like today where we are torn between so much anger and so much sorrow.
We have known Sully since his days of running around the soccer fields at Davidsonville Park. He fought so bravely back then, and always with a smile on his face. Nothing stopped him. When Libby became sick Amy was one of the first people to reach out with such wise advice and words, that helped the insane feel a little easier. We are part of the same club and we don't want any more members to join.
We have to end childhood cancer, and we can only do that with more research. With so little government funding, then it encumberment on us.

Sully passed away in our arms earlier this morning. What a gift he was. Celebration of life details will be announced when we are ready. **kcancer

01/09/2023

Today is the start of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The battle is all too real EVERY DAY and our hearts are with our friends Team Sully and Finns Fierce Fight as they both keep fighting. You've got this boys!
With these fights in mind, we are delighted (if a little late) to announce our FIFTH annual Mr Ted's Relay! Mr Ted and his friend Ms Snow were Libby's teddy bears and they like to compete to see who can complete the most miles in a day. However being bears, they need your help! Join us at Davidsonville Park on 23rd September to help these special bears complete as many miles as they can. Mr Ted wrestled the crown from Ms Snow last year and she wants revenge!

To the class of 2023 at South River High school,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! You are all amazing!
Many of you went through a middle school dance like nothing anyone has experienced. You could have used it as an excuse for things not going right in High School but instead you embraced Libby’s spirit.
We have watched you through High School as you continued to face challenges, and we have watched you grow through it all!
You have become an amazing set of young adults who we know will do amazing things. Keep Libby in your hearts, and continue making a difference.
Your generosity will make a difference and for that we are so grateful. You are the the future, so continue in building that better world.

27/06/2023

Although Mother Nature didn’t quite hold up her end of the bargain, that didn’t appear to dampen the spirits of the 144 golfers who came to battle for glory - or, in some cases, infamy - in our completely sold out (!) Lace 'Em Up for Libby Third Annual Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 22nd.

As always, none of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, to whom we are ever grateful!

We’re also grateful to each of you who continue to support us as we strive to honor Libby’s memory. As Dr. Jeff Rubens, Libby’s oncologist, reminded us, while some forms of pediatric cancer can be successfully treated, the outlook for kids like Libby who are diagnosed with brain cancer remains grim. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of funding for research and potential treatments. Your help gets us one step closer to eliminating that gap.

Together, we can achieve our mission. To give kids a chance: * To live without cancer * To build a better world.

We know that everyone is excited about next year’s Fourth Annual Lace ‘Em Up for Libby Golf Tournament, and we’ll send out the date for that as soon as possible. In the meantime, mark your calendar for our other fun events like Mr. Ted’s Relay in September and Libby’s Birthday Month in February. Visit our website www.laceemupforlibby.org and make sure to follow 'Lace 'Em up for Libby' on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with our upcoming events, to learn more about Lace ‘Em Up for Libby, and for other opportunities to support our mission.

With sincere thanks,

Lace 'Em Up for Libby

08/06/2023

To all the 2023 Graduates of South River.
All the best for the future.
Have fun.
Do great things and make us all proud.
Leave the world a better place than when you found it.

Four years in a blink of an eye. We never wanted Lace Em Up for Libby to be a thing. should be following what Libby is doing now, not drawing inspiration from the past. Someone said last week that maybe it's because the stars that shine so brightly can't last as long. That shouldn't be true.

Today, on this day, we reflect on what shouldn't be. The hole in our hearts that is with us every day, feels a little bit bigger. That whirlwind that was Libby. No, that whirlwind that IS Libby. She is still with us in our fight to:
Give kids a chance
* To live without cancer
* To build a better world

Today is one of those days we look forward to never celebrating again.

Why? Because it will mean we've achieved our mission of finding a cure for DIPG, an absolutely horrific form of brain cancer that takes 90% of the kids who are diagnosed within two years.

Most of us aren't doctors or researchers, but there are still ways to help.

Consider donating to organizations like ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation (https://www.chadtough.org/) that are leading the fight against DIPG.

Learn more about DIPG and what's being done to stop it at https://dipg.org/.

Sign up for events like our Annual Golf Tournament (https://www.laceemupforlibby.org/3rd-annual-golf-tournament/) or the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Superhero Sprint & 6K (https://runsignup.com/Race/MD/Bethesda/Superhero6K).

Together, we can.

On May 12, in honor of Florence Nightingale’s birthday, we celebrate International Nurses Day. It’s hard to put into words everything nurses do for patients and their families. We rely on nurses not only for their skill but also for their compassion, patience, and dedication to our wellbeing. It’s hard to imagine where we’d be without them, so today we’d like to take the opportunity to thank nurses everywhere for making a difference in whatever way they can.

04/05/2023

It’s unanimous. Everyone agrees that brain cancer needs to just go away. Don’t believe us? See for yourself: Even Congress can agree on this one. https://tinyurl.com/332tzspn

Sadly, we aren’t there yet. According to the National Brain Tumor Society, brain cancer is likely to be the 10th leading cause of cancer death in adults and the #1 cause of cancer death in children in 2023. Nearly 19,000 people in the U.S. will die of brain cancer in 2023. And while medicine can do amazing things, when it comes to brain cancer the statistics are pretty grim: a malignant tumor diagnosis comes with a five-year survival rate of less than 7%.

It all sounds pretty grim. So what can you do?

Get involved. Advocate. Fundraise.

There are SO many options, and you can pick whatever suits your lifestyle. Check out the links below for ideas. The important thing is that you act.

So this Friday when you’re celebrating Cinco de Mayo, you should absolutely say a toast to Libby (which she would love) or your favorite fighter. But then take it a step further.

Together we can end the fight against cancer.

Sully and his family were big supporters of Libby and now we need to return this big time! Big Hugs to the Shields Family.

This photo popped up on my phone this morning. It was taken 9 years ago today, one month into his fight. Today we learned we have to fight again. Sully has been diagnosed with Angiosarcoma, a very rare and very aggressive form of blood vessel cancer. The kicker? This cancer was likely caused by all the radiation he had to kill the last cancer. Tomorrow he will have an additional scan to see if it has moved beyond his liver and have his first dose of chemo. Right now, that’s all we know. Once we know if it has spread we will have a better idea of what treatment will look like. We are so grateful to everyone who has reached out, sent love, prayers and good wishes. We feel all of it. Tonight we rest. Tomorrow we fight. **kcancer
