The new working patterns need to be adapted to the job, the worker and the situation, and employers need to listen to the circumstances to meet the needs of their employees and ensure their health, wellbeing, and ability to do their job the best they can.

Employees have highlighted that instruments such as meal vouchers provide a practical solution for lunch that can meet both the social and biological needs of workers. Numerous studies have noted that nutrition is a key driving factor in people’s mental health and that it contributes greatly to employees’ wellbeing and engagement.

One way to do so is by implementing workplace health promotion programmes to ensure the well-being and productivity of workers even during teleworking.
🍎 A key part in this healthier workforce is nutrition. Investing in workplace nutrition and employees’ well-being leads to higher morale, productivity and employee retainment among other benefits and is just sound business practice.

🌿 The FOOD Programme focuses on the working day as a setting for health promotion. The programme seeks to promote balanced nutrition towards employees during their working day and to develop access to healthy choices by working with restaurants.

🌎The programme offers an extensive set of tools and resources that are created together with health professionals. Although obesity is rising across the globe, different countries face different kinds of challenges and studies show that tailored approached programmes work better. In this aim, each FOOD country works with its national partners and creates tools and recommendations adapted to its local context.

Defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health, obesity is associated with several noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancers, and diabetes. People living with obesity are also at greater risk of complications from COVID-19.

We all have a role to play in order to reserve this epidemic.

As a result of this year’s unprecedented pandemic-stricken, economic and social environment, the 2020 survey has focused specifically on Covid-19’s impact on employees’ workday eating habits, especially while they were working from home during the first lockdowns between March and September 2020. It has also analyzed the measures taken by restaurant owners to cope with the crisis, while responding as best they can to their customers’ changing expectations.
