Remembering Ronnie ❤️

Some snaps of Ronnie singing Mimi at Covent Garden in the early 60s, one of her most loved roles.

Ronnie studied the role of Mimi with the Irish soprano Margaret Burke Sheridan, who in turn learned it from Puccini himself and the legendary conductor Toscanini.

Remembering Ronnie ❤️

We’re delighted to share more wonderful photos of Ronnie ahead of the 10th Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition.

Here is Ronnie singing Euridice alongside Kathleen Ferrier as Orfeo, in what would sadly be Kathleen’s last stage appearance.

Covent Garden, February 1953.

Remembering Ronnie ❤️

Whilst our 10th competition is just around the corner, it will also be the first without the legendary, fiery, and wildly funny Veronica Dunne. She was a fierce champion of all young singers, and her legacy lives on through the VDISC.

Here’s our beloved Ronnie ahead of her 1952 debut as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier.

Ronnie would later go on to sing Mimi in “La Boheme” Susanna in “Le Nozze di Figaro”, Antonia in “Tales of Hoffmann”, Blanche in the UK premiere of Poulenc’s “Carmelites” and as Euridice in Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” with the legendary Kathleen Ferrier at Covent Garden.
