Metallic pearlscales tend to have better finnage but weaker pearling than the nacreous. I read once that pearlscales can only be nacreous. I’m not sure where that came from. Are metallic pearlscales real? Last photo is a nacreous one for comparison.
These kirin ranchu from are going to be part of a telescope ranchu project. A few years ago I crossed a ranchu with a celestial eye pom pom with the goal of trying to inbreed the F1 for a start on telechus. But the spawn was small and turned out to be all males. The F2s would have resulted in fish with small wens and Pom poms. By outcrossing the F1s to these kirin ranchu, the end game fish will be better (better ranchu form, wen and less Pom Pom), but it’s going to take another generation at least to pull off the telescope eyes
Some of my favorite hammerheads. eyegoldfish
This one has a very unique body shape. Much bigger belly that the rest of the bunch.
These two nuggets made their way to their new homes this week…. This coming Monday will be my last day shipping via USPS until the new year for the well being of the fish. No offense USPS, but the holiday season has expected delays. I will still be shipping via UPS next day.
Brought this group into a well lit tank with painted back and bottom and the colors really started to pop.
All siblings here. Cross between a telescope eye oranda and a demekin so most of them have petite wens that could be groomed out.
This is one of my favorites. Huge fins, red eyes and lips, teeny red and white Pom poms
I pulled some telescope Bristol’s out of the basement to groom and watch. These two are my favorite of the group.
Some of my favorite telescope pearlscales. Seems like every day is water change day.
I realize that everyone, including myself, wants to pick their exact fish when purchasing. This is always a challenge as a hobbyist breeder (vs importer) as the fish from a single spawn can look so similar, but I’m willing to go the extra mile. Buyer’s choice is now available on the raregoldfish website.
This one has one button/matte eye and one metallic eye, but they are symmetric, the fish is big for it’s age and has good coloration. It’s got a great tail too (the photo does not do the tail justice)
I feel like the eyes balance them out aesthetically. The crown tele pearlscale seems a little crowded, but without the crown, I dig.
This guy has some forward facing eyes. Silly look, but it also has the most blue so will be keeping for the next generation.
Only one in the spawn that ended up with tiger patterns, the black keeps coming in.
A few calico, but mostly red metallic and Sakura telescope pearlscale. I’ll be selecting the ones with the best pearling and blue bases for the next generation
Sorting telescope pearlscales. Coming soon to the website. Link in bio.
This spawn was the first time breeding a telescope to telescope. Usually I’ve crossed telescope to non telescope and had around 25% telescope offspring. This spawn has near 100%. Now available in multiple sizes and grades on raregoldfish.com website
Still can’t believe we spawned this fish! He is one of my favorites. We are working on the next generation now!
Getting big. Still impressed with how nice these fish turned out. My best group of non weirdos
Things are starting to get weird around here.
Probably the most elegant fish we’ve ever bred. Typically we work on the major weirdos of the goldfish world, but these ryukins are top notch great fish.
One of the most common questions I’ve received about celestial eye goldfish fry is “why aren’t their eyes facing upward?” The overwhelming majority of the time, the answer is “they will eventually as they grow” sometimes however, they don’t turn up and that fish wouldn’t be bred in future lines. Almost all goldfish traits (pearlscaling, bubble eyes, celestial eyes, dorsal humps) take time to develop.
Kirin, granite and one metallic ryukin that has a glorious tail
Very proud of this group. Really great kirin, tricolor metallic and granite coloring. Raregoldfish.com is updated and running much quicker thanks to cloudflare
Eyes are popping and some are starting to demelanize. Celestial Pom poms
Celestial Pom Pom spawn. I think about 100 good ones to grow out in this spawn
Mark assisting in fish picking. I hope our little Ryukin fry make people happy. They are really cute. Come check them out at the 25th Anniversary Show Greater Louisville Koi and Goldfish Society.
We made it to Louisville for the show! Our Ryukin fry will be available this weekend. Come by and check them out if your in the Louisville area!
When your heading to the 25th Anniversary Louisville Koi and Goldfish Society show, you stop for lunch in Nashville, and there’s a koi pond…..It’s a good sign!
