It's kitten season at SCRAPS. Here's how the organization's dedicated foster families ease the burden It’s summer. The season of cookouts, ice cream and, believe it or not – kittens.
McCrispy* (67805) is a sweet, friendly boy who is ready for his forever home!! He had a bad infection on his tail and needed a tail amputation. Our vet did his procedure in house and he stayed in our clinic for observation as he healed.
His stiches were removed, he's doing great, and he's ready to snuggle and play!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*McCrispy came in with several siblings all named after McDonald's menu items- McNugget, McFlurry, and McChicken- and they've all been adopted. His name has nothing to do with his injury or amputation ❤
Snowball 69002 and Coco 64064 are the cutest pair! They had a great time in their first playgroup together. Come and meet them at SCRAPS
Kennedy (67503) is an extra special kitty! Both a panleuk survivor and a wobbly kitten ❤️
She arrived at SCRAPS in June with her 7 siblings and they were all sick with panleukopenia.
They spent two weeks undergoing treatments to help them fight the virus but most of her siblings were not strong enough and didn’t survive. 😕 it was an incredibly difficult few weeks in our foster department with so many losses.
Her only surviving sibling (Woodrow) is still in their foster home as he’s trying to gain more weight. But he’s doing well!
Kennedy is now feeling 100%. She's strong, active, and playful!
She's also 💕wobbly💕
She has a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. It’s a mild case and it doesn’t get in the way of her living her best kitten life! You can read more about CH here:
She’s available for adoption today!
Zorro (60228) joined the team for our daily SPARCS meeting! Zorro's official job title is:
✨Treat Tester✨
He makes sure that all the treats pass his sniff inspection and are up to standard before they are shared with his friends
If we've been a little quieter on social media, it's because our facebook fairy has been elbow deep in KITTENS!
Did you know there is a kitten season? Cats tend to procreate when the days are longer. This means in the spring, summer, and fall we get MORE kittens!
As adorable as kittens are, they have more needs than adult cats. Most of the kittens that come into SCRAPS that are under 2 months old end up in our foster program. All of the kittens pictured are currently in foster OR waiting for foster placement.
Some of these kittens are sick or unsocialized, but most are just too young to be fixed and adopted yet. So they go into our amazing foster homes to get healthy, happy, and big enough to go to their furever families.
If you would like to join our foster program, email [email protected] or go to our website to fill out an application.
Hotdogs and string cheese please!!
Our canine enrichment team is asking for donations of hotdogs and string cheese to use while working with our doggos. These high value treats go a long way when working with frightened or stressed dogs.
Thank you!
SCRAPS is currently at capacity for TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) cats.
We understand that a TNR program is important to many citizens of Spokane County and plan to resume this service as soon as possible. In the interim, if you have a community cat or cats that would make a good candidate for TNR, please reach out to one of our many community partners for openings in their programs.
Thank you for your continued support of Spokane County’s Regional Animal Protection Service.
Yesterday we hosted Dr. Adam Stern who conducted an animal cruelty workshop for students. Dr. Stern is a board certified veterinarian pathologist and professor at the University of Florida. Dr. Stern taught students fundamentals pertaining to animal cruelty investigations. Topics included the relationship/roles between investigator, veterinarian, and prosecutor, crime scene photography, evidence handling, and veterinary forensic pathology. This training has enhanced our animal protection officers ability to investigate and enforce crimes against animals. Thank you Dr. Stern, Washington Animal Control Association, and The International Society for Animal Forensic Sciences. We also would like to thank our local law enforcement and veterinary partners who attended the workshop.
HUGE Thank you to the community for showing up last week and adopting 159 animals from SCRAPS! 😍😍😍
When you adopt from SCRAPS, you are giving a second chance to homeless animals from your own community.
In total y'all came out and adopted
33 cats
38 dogs
76 kittens
12 puppies
Plus 14 animals were reclaimed by their owners last week! We love a happy reunion!
When you adopt from SCRAPS, this frees up kennel space and resources so we can continue to take in and care for homeless, abandoned, neglected, and abused animals from Spokane County.
Thank YOU for supporting local animals in need. ❤
The Haney clan at Deer Lake raised $810 for SCRAPS at their annual 4th of July basket raffle. There were 12 baskets to raffle this year. And a co****le tournament. Fun was had by all!
Even if you can take just 2 or 3 of these kittens it would be a HUGE help!
You would need to attend a short orientation with our foster coordinator. Please TEXT 509-723-9529 if you are interested in fostering these kittens and our foster coordinator will get back to you ASAP.
