Okay, so I have a slight addiction to doTerra essential oils....who could possibly blame me! These o
Approximately 12% of the population (children and adults) experience painful and debilitating migraines. Migraines are complex and their exact cause and trigger are not known. Inflammation in the nervous system (neurogenic inflammation), dilation of blood vessels on the surface of the brain, and alterations in neurochemicals and neuropeptides (serotonin, nitric oxide, endothelin, CGRP) are some of the abnormal brain activities associated with migraines.
A recent review article concluded that lavender, peppermint, German chamomile, anise, basil CT estragole, rose, and garlic essential oils were useful for migraines. They further identified constituents in these oils that contribute to relief of factors that contribute to migraines: menthol (pain relief, reduces neurogenic inflammation); borneol (relaxes blood vessels, reduces neurogenic inflammation); 1,8-cineole (dilates blood vessels, reduces neurogenic inflammation, inhibits CNS pain); linalool/linalyl acetate (reduces neurogenic inflammation, inhibits CNS pain); menthone (reduces neurogenic inflammation); limonene (pain relief, reduces neurogenic inflammation, balances vasomotor abnormalities); alpha-pinene (reduces neurogenic inflammation); beta-elemene (reduces neurogenic inflammation); beta-caryophyllene (reduces neurogenic inflammation, balances vasomotor abnormalities); trans-anethole (reduces neurogenic inflammation, balances vasomotor abnormalities); diallyl trisulfide (reduces neurogenic inflammation); estragole (reduces neurogenic inflammation, balances vasomotor abnormalities); and citronellol (relaxes blood vessels, reduces neurogenic inflammation, reduces excess pain response).

Elevated levels of fats (hyperlipidemia)--cholesterol and triglycerides--in the blood is a leading cause of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Hyperlipidemia is increasing globally and common among people with diabetes or metabolic syndrome.
A preclinical model of acute hyperlipidemia found that oral administration of cinnamon essential oil significantly reduced total cholesterol, VLDL, and triglycerides in subjects with acute hyperlipidemia. Remarkably, cinnamon essential oil was more effective than the drug atorvastatin without causing harm to the liver.

Frankincense has many benefits and can be used to support health in many ways. One way is through supporting healthy immune responses and respiratory health.
Allergic asthma, characterized by shortness of breath and wheezing after exposure to a substance, is the most common type of asthma. Inhalation of frankincense essential oil (30 minutes per day, three times per week, for eight weeks via a nebulizing diffuser) reduced airway constriction and hypersensitive airway reactions in a preclinical model of allergic asthma. The oil also positively influenced lung health and function and balanced immune cell activity in affected tissues.

As overweight and obesity rates increase, scientists, medical professionals, and the general public are searching for solutions to support a healthy weight. In the hierarchy of fat loss, nutrition, exercise (especially strength training), and protein intake are the most important factors, but natural remedies like essential oils can also be helpful.
A review article concluded that essential oils may promote fat loss by accelerating fat burning and reducing fat accumulation. In my opinion, and based on supportive research, they can also reduce appetite. The article highlighted several citrus essential oils like grapefruit and lime, and their main constituent limonene, as effective.

Frankincense is a great essential oil topically and orally for pain and inflammation. A preclinical study found that the topical application of frankincense essential oil relieves pain and reduces inflammation. The researchers noted that the oil interrupts pain signals in the nervous system, reduces the production of pro-inflammatory molecules, and inhibits COX-2 overexpression. The researchers further found that alpha-pinene, linalool, and 1-octanol contribute to these activities of frankincense oil.

Gout is a painful inflammatory condition characterized by recurrent attacks of red, hot, swollen, and tender joints due to the buildup of monosodium urate monohydrate crystals in the joint. It is estimated that from 1% to 4% of the population suffers from gout, with older men being the most affected.
Oral administration of beta-caryophyllene, the primary component of copaiba essential oil and also found in black pepper, cananga, melissa, and other essential oils, reduced gout symptoms in experimental models. The constituent reduced inflammation and improved joint function by modifying the expression of several proteins involved in gout and inflammation.

The best Eucalyptus is here, and it smells so sweet!
Five unique species create this proprietary Eucalyptus blend: Eucalyptus radiata, Eucalyptus polybractea, Eucalyptus kochii, Eucalyptus loxophleba, and Eucalyptus globulus. The primary chemical component of these species is eucalyptol (1,8-cineole), which is where this blended essential oil gets many of its benefits and camphoraceous, herbaceous aroma.
Don't miss your chance to get this blend in the 2022 Convention Kit!
Researchers evaluated the benefits of using a throat spray with essential oils on respiratory and lung health. Thirty-five women aged 18 to 60 years old and currently experiencing respiratory symptoms sprayed the essential oil based throat spray (pine, eucalyptus, lemon eucalyptus, ravensara, cypress, hyssop, thyme, sage, dill, rosemary, and bay laurel essential oils in a blend of apple cider vinegar, aloe vera, olive oil, and almond extract) or a placebo spray into their throats 4 to 6 times daily for 3 days. At the end of the third day, the essential oil spray group experienced resolution of all chest-related symptoms and better overall bronchial health.

Helichrysum is a fantastic essential oil for the skin and muscle soreness. It is nicknamed "liquid stitches" because of its wound healing properties and just a little in a blend goes a long way to improving efficacy. A recent study also suggests that the oil is a good antioxidant and inhibits gram-positive bacteria, suggesting it may have antiseptic properties when used for wounds.

Copaiba is one of my very favorite essential oils with a plethora of benefits. One of things I love about copaiba is its ability to improve the absorption of other lipophilic (fat loving, like essential oils) substances through the skin. Two studies showed that copaiba enhances the pe*******on, retention, and activity of anti-inflammatory drugs. My experience is that using copaiba topically with other oils improves the pe*******on of the oils through the skin and therefore their efficacy. In this way, copaiba acts as a "synergizing" essential oil.

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune/autoinflammatory condition characterized by well-defined red plaques and silvery scaly areas that affects the skin, joints, and tendons. T lymphocytes play a role in its development and progression by triggering cytokine production and tissue alterations. A preclinical model of psoriasis found that topical application of a nanoemulsion containing 15% turmeric essential oil reduced inflammation causing the researchers to conclude that it has potential to serve as an alternative treatment for skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

More than 10% of the adult population has high cholesterol, with the number of people experiencing this increasing with age. Several essential oils have been investigated in preclinical models for their ability to reduce cholesterol. After discovering that melissa essential oil reduces total cholesterol and triglycerides in laboratory research, researchers evaluated the benefits of oral administration of melissa essential oil in a preclinical model. What they found was that oral administration of melissa essential oil reduces triglycerides by altering several lipid metabolic pathways, including bile acid and cholesterol creation (synthesis), and fatty acid metabolism.
