What a way to end our iScience Camp last week.

Students had a fun adventure traveling to the McWane Science Center for some hands on learning, discovery, and fun.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff for making science come alive. We can’t wait to share what the kids have learned all week.

Our dance team spent the week preparing for the 2024-25 season at NDA dance camp. It’s going to be an incredible year with our new varsity dance team coach, Kate Richardson. These girls work hard, are extremely talented and we look forward to seeing their new choreography this year! Go Lions!

If you’ve driven by the Upper School lately, you have probably seen the large number of trucks, cranes, and heavy machinery in the front lot.

The Upper School campus is getting major upgrade with the installation of a brand new roof and AC units. Next year is going to be leakproof and “cooler than ever”.

Our Junior High Cheerleaders spent the afternoon serving at Grace Klein this week. They bagged 71 bags of shoes that are going to Africa 25 in each bag. They prayed over each pair of shoes and made cards with scripture on it. They worked so hard and so fast, they were amazing. Grace Klein started with the vision of one person and it has grown into a huge ministry and it was a great lesson to teach the girls that one person can have a dream and God can multiply it and how much impact one person can have!

Our Lady Lions basketball team had a great day at UAB getting some play-date W’s!! Go Lions!

Alumni Spotlight: MSU Goldwater Scholars join 2024 Astronaut Scholars Class

Meet Annamarie Thompson, an MSU Provost Scholar, and Briarwood Christian School Alumni, is a biomedical engineering major minoring in mathematics. She also is enrolled in MSU’s MBA Venture Pathway Program, which supplements her STEM curriculum with one business course each semester. She will seek a doctoral degree in cancer biology and aims to conduct translational and clinical pediatric oncology research on brain tumors at a leading research and teaching hospital.
Astronaut Scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors who intend to pursue research or advance their field upon completion of their final degrees. Scholars are selected for their initiative, creativity and excellence in their chosen field. In addition to receiving a financial award, they enjoy networking and mentoring opportunities with astronauts, alumni and industry leaders; participation in the Michael Collins Family Professional Development Program; and a paid trip to attend ASF’s Innovators Week and Gala in Houston, Texas, which provides an opportunity for the scholars to present their research at a technical conference.

Big things are happening at our lower school science lab!

The highly anticipated science lab demo has officially begun, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with you!

From the team: This is truly a special place! We had a biggest day of clinic yet seeing 140 medical patients and 120 eye patients, dentist patients, vbs, and moved tons of dirt. Tonight we gathered with all of the faculty and staff from the school along with our translators for a time of sharing and games. We ended the evening with a team devotion by one of our students. This team has worked incredibly hard all week and are having a blast together.  One day of clinic to go.

An incredible past couple of days in Guatemala. Coach Kerley delivered an inspiring message while Coach Bautista translated, spreading the gospel in a powerful way. We kicked off our first clinic at the amphitheater, reaching out to the community and sharing the love of Christ. Plus, our VBS and clinics are in full swing, alongside teacher training and construction projects. God is moving in amazing ways!

Memorial Day is a time to pause, remember, reflect and honor the fallen soldiers and the ultimate sacrifice they have given for our country. May we continue to remember and honor one of our very own, Lance Corporal Thomas E. Rivers, Jr., USMC class of 2007, who went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2010 due to enemy action while fulfilling a life-long dream of serving as a U.S. Marine.

Congressman Gary Palmer was quoted saying that “Lance Corporal Thomas Rivers was a courageous young man who laid down his life in service to our country. He knew from a young age that God had called him to be a Marine and he was determined to live up to that calling. While his loss is still deeply felt in our community, his strong faith in God and his courage and selfless commitment to his fellow Marines should challenge and inspire us all.”

This morning orientation and devotion and prepping for clinics! After a much needed rest from our travel day, these students are jumping in to help wherever needed!

Please be in prayer for our students and staff as they head to Guatemala on their mission trip. Pray our students would be salt and light and that they would grow in faith and knowledge of the Lord.

Congratulations to our amazing 6th graders on their graduation from Elementary School. You've worked hard, learned so much, and made unforgettable memories. As you move on to junior high, we know you'll continue to shine and achieve great things.

As you prepare to move into junior high, remember these words of wisdom from Mr. Morrissey.

Junior High is the time to try new things, take the risk, put yourself out there, go for it, and get plugged in somewhere as soon as possible.

Do not let fear of failure rule over you, most people have learned tremendous lessons from their failures.

Show up, participate, cheer your classmates on, and welcome the new classmates into your class.

Be wise with who you surround yourself with. Take your time with this, and make sure you get this right as the people around you shape your character, influence your decisions, and mold the way you think.

Here's to new beginnings and exciting adventures ahead!

Congratulations to the class of 2024 on many of its notable achievements. This class applied to a total of 84 colleges in 16 states and as of April 29, 2024, the Class of 2024 has earned a total of $8,221,792.00 in scholarship money. The members of this class have logged over 15,000 service hours and volunteered at over 130 different organizations. Our young scholars have been diving into American history all year long, and today, they showcased their knowledge and patriotism in a special musical program. From the founding fathers to iconic landmarks, they’ve embraced the spirit of America. Join us in applauding their hard work and enthusiasm!

VIDEO: Briarwood girls get redemption, punch ticket to State Championship - Shelby County Reporter The Briarwood girls soccer team got redemption from a 2-1 shootout loss to Montgomery Academy last year by beating the Eagles 5-2 in this year's semifinal game to punch a ticket to the Class 6A State Championship.

The fourth grade traveled last week to the US SPACE and ROCKET CENTER to experience an adventure out of this world! The students spent the day visiting the INTUITIVE® Planetarium for a live, guided tour of the universe with one a planetarium specialist, participated in a lab where they discovered a variety a chemical reactions, met an astronaut, learned how astronauts live and stay in shape in space, watched live footage of daily living in the International Space Station, toured the Davidson Center for Space Exploration and were able to experience G-Forces and it’s effect on the body through the G-Force Accelerator, and much more!

Yesterday, we had an incredible time honoring our exceptional teachers on National Teacher Appreciation Day with a delightful espresso bar! We are thankful for our teachers and all they do to pour into the lives of our students!
