Georgia Teachers For Fossil Fuel Divestment

We are Georgia teachers who are concerned about climate change. We are encouraging our state pension at $496 million, and Schlumberger Ltd. at $262 million.

The Georgia Teachers Retirement System currently has significant investments in extractive fossil fuel companies. Among its twenty largest equity holdings are Exxon Mobil at $710 million, Chevron Corp. We believe that the Georgia Teachers Retirement System should begin the process of divesting from fossil fuels for the following reasons:
