Blistering heat…windy…fast = Ludo taking his first win in a crit!
With an incredible ride put in by Tony and John Hatchitt the trio relentlessly attacked the course to eventually get Ludo onto the top step of the podium at this past weekend’s Chuck Pontius Memorial Criterium.
Another hard day on the bike with a great team effort leads to a fantastic result for the team!
8.6 miles up the legendary Glendora Mountain Road, approximately 2,300 feet of climbing…The GMR Time Trial Challenge is no easy day on the bike, yet Ludo has the ability to make things that are very hard look easy. Congrats to Ludo for the big win over the weekend.
Also loving the custom Davis Phinney Team Polo and his snazzy blue on the podium! 😉
Fresh off a trip to visit his homeland of Ireland 🇮🇪, Tony returned to race the Pescadero Cycling Classic Road Race this past weekend placing a solid third in a fast, challenging race with strong support from Ludo!
SCNCA Masters Road Race Championship was held down in San Diego County this past weekend….and no this isn’t a podium photo from last years race. Doug Pomeranz once again took the top step, back to back repeat State Champion! A solid second place went to Pete, with great support from Thurlow throughout the race.
The team was also well represented in other age groups with both KB, and Sang having strong finishes in their respective races.
We are so thrilled to be able to have Doug add another championship to his list, and proud to have such a great group of teammates helping put him into that position.
As always, thank you to our wonderful partners and sponsors, we couldn’t do this without you!

JKC Memorial Hunte Parkway Road Race….
Doug 🥇
Pete 🥈
Brett 🥉
Incredible team effort! Nothing more to say than that!
Solid weekend for the team at the Boulevard Road Race down in San Diego County. In two different age categories we had two Davis Phinney Masters riders on the podium. Congrats to both Doug P and Pete for a fantastic result in their race, and to Tony and Ludo for a great second and third in theirs as well…with strong support from John Hatchitt. (Love the matching team colored guys! 😉)
Fun course in the beautiful backcountry of San Diego!
As always thanks to all of our incredible sponsors!
Breathless Agony certainly lived up to its title this weekend. Ludo and Malcolm took part in one of the more challenging events in California both “hammering” the 107 miles and over 11,000 ft of climbing up into the high mountains. A truly brutal but beautiful ride!
And what do we have here?? After welcoming him back onto our team this season and after recovering from a recent accident, Brett Clare scored a huge win at this weekends CBR race!
Nice return to racing Brett! 🥇💥🥇
Great weekend overall…as always thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors!
Another fun weekend of racing with some solid results across a couple different cycling disciplines! First off congrats to both Pete and Sang for completing the incredibly difficult San Marcos. Pete finished 1st in his age group and 13th overall in the Wafer distance, and Sang finished 7th in his age group with official time 7 hours 19 min on the full distance 120 mile course! The finish also earned Sang a 2nd place overall for the BWR Triple Crown (all three BWR events).
Finally Ted got a strong 2nd place at the LAX Circuit Race on Sunday in his age group!
Great results and good times!
Thanks to all of our incredible sponsors!
Congrats Ludo on his fantastic first place finish at last weekends SCNCA Championship Individual Time Trial at Lake Los Angeles. Ludo set a blistering pace finishing over a minute ahead of the second place rider.
Great job as well to Ted Rupp who got a solid third place at Sunday’s CBR Series Race 4 in Carson!
Solid weekend of fun racing for everyone. Thank you to all of our incredible sponsors for your ongoing support.
Exploring scenic routes in California while pedaling for Parkinson’s awareness with Davis Phinney Foundation Masters Cycling! 🚴♂️🌟
Tactical racing, a very strong field, and extremely difficult roads from all the recent storms all faced the guys at this past weekends Copperopolis Road Race.
In a strategic move Tony lit up the race on the big climb of the day and Ludo ended up in the chase group in the driver seat following behind. After the climb the chase group shattered and Ludo leaped ahead solo to catch up to Tony and one other rider in the break eventually taking the win at the line with Tony following in second! Great team effort from Johnny Hatchitt also helped secure the solid 1-2 finish for the team, followed by a celebratory burger and fries at Carls Jr!
Race Report from Sang….
“First BWR is in the books. Every BWR is unique and has its own challenges. A couple mistakes happened hence result is not as expected. Stayed safe at all technical sections but over took a hop at mile 20ish on single track at about 20mph and hit the deck hard. Good thing that I was able to continue. Second mistake was Garmin was not recording so riding blind. The plan was not get off the bike the whole ride, hand feed at mile 32 and 72 without stopping. The second feed took place at about mile 65 ( and thought 72) and I spent most of the fluid after 8mile climb before the last long off road. Got cramped about a mile in and starting going backward. Lot of crawling and walking in that 10-11 mile stretch, lost a lot of time. Got to the feed again at mile 96 back on the road, a couple pickles and a coke to roll in 11th place for my age group.”
Those that follow cycling know any Belgian Waffle event is no joke and we are proud of Sang for such a fantastic result! Great job!
Absolutely stellar result for Ludo at this past weekends Tucson Bicycle Classic. A three day USA Cycling stage race consisting of a time trial, road race, and circuit race in the beautiful Sonoran Desert area in and around Tucson.
Ludo won the road race stage riding 40 miles solo(!) after putting over four minutes on the bunch. After getting 2nd on the TT stage and also finishing strong at the circuit race he was crowned the overall CG leader for the weekend in the 50+ category!
In Ludo’s own words,”The field had teeth and came to race!”
Great job Ludo. Proud of you for representing our team and our sponsors at such a marquee event!
BTW.. the last photo is Ludo with Norm Alvis,
former World Tour pro, Olympian, National Champion (just to name a few of his incredible accomplishments) who raced against Ludo over the three days.

A little late weekend update on the teams racing. We traveled up to the beautiful central coast to race back to back road races.
First, on Saturday at the Cantua Creek Road Race and then on Sunday at the Pine Flats Road Race. The team had stellar results both days as you can see from the photos. Additionally, after taking first, second, and third in the 50+ race at Pine Flats the guys donated their winnings back to the race organizers to help them continue to have what is an under appreciated but beautiful race in a beautiful location in the future!
Another fantastic weekend of racing for our team at the 37th Annual Roger Milliken GP.
With strong support from teammates Sang, Pete, Aaron, and Tony, the team worked together to help put Doug across the line first in the 50+ race. Doug also won the 60+ race as well!
A great day for Doug and the team overall at a classic early season SoCal event!
Another fantastic early season race result for the team, this past weekend at the Rosena Ranch Circuit Race! Congrats to Sang for taking the win in his first race of the season in the 35/40 race and to Ludo for a strong third place in the 45/50 race with strong support from Tony B and again Sang racing in back to back categories (racing 75 miles between both races!!)
Great things to come in 2024 including our new kit from …Stay tuned!
Not a bad way to start our 2024 with Ludo taking a solid second at the Santa Barbara Road Race with support from Tony B and our “rookie” John Hatchitt!
Welcome to the team …great to see you back racing after a really bad injury, surgery and rehab!
Great things to come in 2024 including our new kit from …Stay tuned!
Beautiful day on the bike to honor our friend and teammate Ed.
Reposting as a reminder that this Saturday is the memorial ride for Ed. See below for details…
December 2nd, our team will be hosting a ride in honor of our teammate and friend Ed Morris. This will be an easy paced ride, a short 22 mile loop that Ed and Heidi loved to regularly ride. We will be meeting at The Landing parking lot in Westlake at 8:30 departing at 9.
Route map is below. Note: the start point on the map is incorrect. Rockstore climb is an option for those that want to do it.
We would love to see all of our local cycling riders, clubs, and shops who knew and loved Ed come out and join us. Please feel free to share this as well as I can’t tag from our business page!

Our team has lost a great friend, teammate, and cyclist. Ed Morris sadly passed away this week while on a ride in Mammoth, doing the thing he loved, in a place he loved, with the person he loved.
Eddie has been a part of our team since the very beginning and an important ambassador for the Davis Phinney Foundation, wearing our kit and helping spread the message of the Foundation wherever he rode, but it goes well beyond that….He has been a part of our lives since our earliest days at the Amgen Cycling Club and eventually the Amgen Breakaway from Cancer Masters Cycling Team and even father back, spanning decades of friendships for many of us on the team.
Ed was also a pillar of our local cycling community and if you lived in the Conejo Valley you were sure to see he and Heidi out riding pretty much every day, and not a Friday didn’t go by where most of us eagerly awaited the weekly newsletter email he sent out to see what was going on in the world of cycling, locally, and professionally, as well as the great cycling tips that he shared from his years of experience on the bike. Our local cycling community is a family and that family lost an incredible friend.
We want to send our deepest condolences to Heidi and everyone else who knew and loved Eddie. His loss will be felt by many in our area and by us, his teammates for a long time.
After riding through rain and wind from start to finish Tony finished 10th overall, first in his age category, Ludo finished 17th, and Doug Urbach rounded out our team coming in shortly afterwards in a field of over 800 riders in last weekends Mammoth Gran Fondo. Despite the challenging conditions it was a wonderful event in riding in the beautiful Sierra Nevadas.
We are excited to announce that the Davis Phinney Foundation has partnered with Serotta Cycling for a month-long fundraising event! That means you have a chance to win a custom-made titanium Serotta bike worth $12,500!

A very, very hot USA Cycling Masters Nationals in Augusta, Georgia saw Ludo in the TT give it his all, hitting some of his best numbers of all time and finishing second to a very strong Pat Warner, overall finishing the weekend fifth in his age group.
Doug Pomeranz took home a solid second place in his road race while riding against a strong field of racers from around the country in over 100 degree temps! 🥵
We are so proud of both Ludo and Doug for achieving such great results for our team under such extremely challenging conditions!
As always thank you to all of our incredible sponsors and partners!
Fantastic result for Ludo and our team up north this past weekend at the San Ardo Road Race…one of the few road races left in California! Tony was super aggressive and rode extremely strong even though he had a mechanical on the second lap. Local SoCal racer and friend Johnny Hatchitt covered a bunch of attacks to keep Ludo in play, and the winning move was put on by our other local SoCal friend Bart Clifford! Bart set Ludo into orbit with three other guys, where he was able to attack and get rid of them with about 10k to go to take the win. Fun day on the bike and another preparation step towards Ludo’s Nationals race soon. A great day not only representing our team and our sponsors but also a lot of fun being able to race and represent the strength of the SoCal race scene with our friends!
Update on a couple of recent events our team participated in. First, Tony placed 20th (out of a field of over 200) overall in his FIRST gravel event the DirtyBear50 at the Tour de Big Bear weekend.
Second, Ludo got a nice podium at the Patterson Pass Road Race in the blazing heat. Ludo was using this race as prep for the upcoming Masters Nationals.
Great job to both of our guys representing our team at a diverse couple of events!
