Olivewavz The Perfect Storm (Twister)
Today is the birthday of the very first Cornish rex as Kallibunker was born 21st of July 1950. Short Breed HISTORY:
Cornish Rex cats originated in Cornwall, England, where one first appeared in a litter of barn cats in 1950. A cream-colored male, named Kallibunker, was covered in tight rows of tiny curls, giving him the appearance of a miniature lamb. As he grew, his differences from his litter-mates became more dramatic: a slender, fine-boned body standing on long legs, a narrow head, enormous “bat ears,” and a long, whippy tail. Kallibunker was a genuine mutation and was bred back to his mother to produce curly kittens. The curly coated cats were bred with Burmese, Siamese, and British domestic short hair cats, resulting in a broad genetic base for the Cornish Rex breed and the knowledge that the gene was recessive.
Twister (The Perfect Storm) has been awarded 2023 SECOND BEST CORNISH REX OF THE YEAR (728 points) and 2023 BEST BLUE CORNISH REX OF THE YEAR (728 points) in the MID ATLANTIC Region of The International Cat Association (TICA)! 😊
Olivewavz is officially 8 years old! 🥳

POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the kitten
BREEDER: $1,500
POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!
BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?
POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You breeders are so over priced.
BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!
BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!
BREEDER: To start you will need a female(average cost $1500 and up). Also a male(average cost $1500and up). You will need to show them to their championship to show they meet the breed standard(Minimal $2000 with travel & fees). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, averages about $500 per cat. Raise and provide daily care, feeding & grooming for at least a year. (So minimal $100 per month)
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...
BREEDER: For $500 you can raise a litter and then keep one of the kittens. Obviously, you will pay the cost of birthing & care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.
BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to deliver in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 16 weeks to help with delivery and care.
POTENTIAL OWNER: 16weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.
BREEDER: You may also need the reproductive vet to do xrays($200-$500), & C-section($1000-$5000) and initial vet care on kittens until old enough to be placed, including cost for spay/neuter and after care.
Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, sanitizer, absorbent tissues, scissors, hemostats, heating pad, birthing box, blankets, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....
POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!
BREEDER: For $1000 you can buy them.
POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a kitten.
BREEDER: Wise decision.
For reputable breeders there are few vacations or holidays. While you go to visit with family & friends, we are home at our cats side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.
THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a professional you don't only pay for the kitten but also:
Tools, knowledge, experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc. No breeder who takes proper care of their animals is making big money. It all goes back into the breeding program. This a true preservation breeder.
Copied from Erin Kirk:
For those of you looking to adopt a pet from a private breeder or rescuer. Please remember that not all of us are comfortable allowing you into our homes to come and snoop around our houses any longer. This doesn’t make us a bad breeder or rescuer, or is a red flag that we are untrustworthy.
There have been multiple incidences of people coming to rob breeders of their purebred kittens or puppies. One at gunpoint that I know of.
Rogue activists who will come and try to hurt you or your family or even your pets and/or try and bring people in to confiscate and steal your animals simply because they don’t agree with what you are doing. Think PETA.
So when I tell you no, I’m sorry, I don’t let people I don’t know in my house. I’m not trying to be rude. I’m protecting my family first, then my cats second. I am more than happy to Facetime or send videos with evidence of dates in the videos so you know they aren’t recycled. We live in a technological world. So no. You will not be coming in to my house for any reason. Thanks for your understanding and compassion.

July 21, 1950 is the birthday of the very first Cornish Rex, Kallibunker. Kallibunker was born to a barn cat in Cornwall England with an independent mutation of the Rex gene creating the signature marcel wave we see today! Happy birthday Kallibunker.
We attended the Garden State cat show this weekend in New Jersey with our kitten, Twister (a.k.a Olivewavz The Perfect Storm) and two of our adult girls, Stormy (Olivewavz The Eye of the Storm) and Callie (Olivewavz Calypso). Twister had a great first show making four finals. And among steep competition, Callie earned several second best of breed placements. It was a great weekend with friends also.

We lost our beloved, retired stud cat, Gabriel today. He was such a good and sweet boy. He fathered several litters for us and ReikiRex Cornish Rex and made such pretty babies. I know Gracy (his 'wife'), along with us, will miss you. Rest in peace, sweetheart. Until we meet again... ❤️🌈
Olivewavz is 7 years old today!
