One of the more interesting articles I have seen on GAP year dynamics. Not sure that the study they reference is of a large enough sample group, but there are some salient points made.

I am hopeful that the college admission scandal will both facilitate conversation and inspire long-overdue change, both in and outside of higher education.

In light of the recent admission scandal that has rocked our country and the higher education community, I wanted to share a few thoughts:
There are many consultants doing ethical, professional work that is for the students and about the students, not the college bumper sticker. We find the right fit. We don’t guarantee admission anywhere, because we simply can’t. Most of us are long-time members of professional consulting associations and abide by clear guidelines and standards. We are in this business to support student growth and development. The college admission process is a vehicle for this, when navigated honestly (including those rejection letters!), in good faith and with a healthy dose of humility and humor.
This article summed up for me what really matters in the college admission process:

And to all you hard-working, honest students anxiously awaiting admissions decisions, you will know YOU earned that big packet that arrives in the mail. I celebrate you!
