MAC Bird Busters

Great day at the state tournament in Alexandria! Many personal bests including nine 25/25 straight. Our first year registered athletes did a stand up job! We had lots of support from the parents, grandparents,coaches and scorers, cheering on the team all day!

To give an idea of the tough competition our high gun varsity male, Ryan Pelto tied for 22nd hitting 96/100 targets.

We are extremely proud of this team and the growth they showed this season-well done team! 11/20

A quick recap of our great spring season before we compete in the State tournament tomorrow, at Alexandria MN.
Our final count for registered athletes this season was 53. Cromwell-8, Aitkin-17, Mcgregor-19, home school within these districts-9. 39 of these athletes will be competing in the state tournament.

What a fun day in Marshall MN for the 5-stand state tournament. The team did a great job, new target combinations and field layouts. This is how we finished:
Wyatt: 8th for Varsity Male. He also received his second place 🥈 conference award
Ava: Tied for second in JV Female but because of the tiebreaker, she ended up third 🥉
Tucker: 20th for Varsity Male
Cole: 10th for JV Male
Ean: 26th for JV Male
Gavin: 6th for Novice Male
Zack: 8th for Novice Male
As a team, we placed 7th overall.
Good job to all of you! The hard work you guys have put in all year is showing. It’s so great watching you all improve every single time you go out there.

trap practice canceled today due to storm

trap and 5 stand are canceled today wednesday may 22 due to a power outage. our reserve scores will be used.

Our 5-stand team is starting off strong, Wyatt C. and Tucker K are in the top 10 of the conference hitting 41/50 and 40/50 targets respectively, during week 1. competition.

Week 1 competition is complete congratulations to Cayden E. and Jake M for hitting 25/25! We had multiple 44/50 and higher scores along with personal bests!

Reserve week was cold and windy but our team prevailed. Congratulations to Jake M. and Wyatt C for hitting 25/25. We had many personal bests and continue to improve. Thank you coaches, safety officers, scorers and parents for all your help.

The 5-stand team registered some great scores for reserve week. These seven athletes are crushin it! They shoot 50 rounds for 5-stand AND 50 rounds of trap in the same night. Thank you Paul and Barb Nelson for leading this team!

The wind was fast and furious for our first practice last night. We had a lot of terrific scores and great attitudes. Congratulations to Clyde S. for hitting 49/50 targets!

Trap and 5 stand are canceled for wednesday the 27th and saturday the 30th.

Registration is officially closed. We have 59 athletes on the trap team and 7 athletes on the 5-stand team. We are looking forward to another successful season.

If you are interested in joining the MAC Bird Bustrs trap team and would like to try trap before signing up, today is the day! 4:30pm at the Minnewawa Gun range on hwy 65. Please text Becky if you are going to attend 218-244-4442. You must be in the 6-12 grade in the Mcgregor, Aitkin, or Cromwell school district and bring your firearm safety certificate. There is no fee for this. You will be taught safety and the basic fundamentals of trap, and our nightly routine. Registration closes on the 24th.

If you are thinking about joining but aren’t quite sure if you’ll like it or not, we are having a trial/newbie day on March 20th at 4:30. You must be in the 6-12th grade in Mcgregor, Aitkin, or Cromwell school district, and have a firearm safety certificate. you must bring your certificate with you if you are not registered yet. we will show you how to shoot trap, teach you the safety expectations and routine of practice and competitions. You can then decide if this sport is right for you.

Registration closes March 24th, you cannot be added after that.

Trap registration is open for the MAC Bird Busters team! If you are a returning athlete you should have received an email from the clay target league and our team manager Becky. You must be 12 with a firearm safety certificate, be in the Mcgregor , Aitkin, or Cromwell school districts, be passing all classes and have no conduct violations. Our guidelines follow the MSHSL and school extracurricular activities policies and procedures. registration closes march 24th at noon.

Way to go trap team! Congratulations for achieving first place in the 1A 18 conference. We had a good time during fun night, with food and games, playing Annie Oakley, back your buddy, P.I.G at 5-stand and regular rounds of trap. It was great to have the support of the parents and guardians and have them participate in the games.

We recognized our 25/25 shooters and our favorite part the “shoulda hit it”25-1 club.
Our rookie of the season went to Ben Gripentrog achieving a 19.3 average.

Our male most improved, Gavin Klee,went from a novice 14.29 to a varsity average of 21.6!

Our female most improved, Hazel Guida, went from a novice 11.8 to a varsity average of 20.0!

Our high gun male was Wyatt Crowther achieving a 23.3 average.

Ava Guida was our female high gun achieving a 23.1 average.

We had a great season with so many shooters improving their averages, we are looking forward to an awesome spring season!

Great job to our 5-stand team for placing 3rd in the conference!
Wyatt Crowther took third in the conference with a 20.8 average, Abram Perrine took 9th with a 19.7.Ava Guida placed 3rd with a 17.9 and Isabelle Cook placed 5th in the conference with 11.5.

Our high gun awards for 5 stand went to Wyatt Crowther and Ava Guida. Ava also received rookie of the season.

What a fun season ! There were many personal high scores achieved and hurdles overcome. Thank you to our community supporters, volunteer coaches, safety officers , scorers and manager, it takes a lot of dedicated people to run a large team like this.

WE DID IT !

The final results are in the 5-stand team took 3rd out of 9 in the state. What a great season and a huge achievement. 5-stand was added to the bird busters list of shotgun disciplines in the fall of 2022. These 10 kids, led by head coach Paul Nelson, have been dedicated to this sport and it shows. Way to go team!

MAC Bird Buster alumni Jordan Paquette just completed her final college competition hitting 99/100 targets with a reverse run of 52. Taking second place to Clay Ceynar who hit 100. Congratulations team Alexandria Technical and community college for finishing 3rd!
