Titan was another who just needed to be able to medt potential adopters in person. He had sat with us for several months with no adoption interest. We sent him to The Pittie Project PNW via Project Freedom Ride last year, and Thursday was his one year adoptaversary!

So thankful for everyone involved in helping this amazing boy!

Sometimes dogs just need to be able to meet potential families face to face. Sometimes their personalities just don’t shine through online. Betsy was one of those girls.

Betsy found her forever home after we sent her via Project Freedom Ride to The Pittie Project PNW. We are so thankful for partnerships like these!

These pictures of Eros and his new family are simply perfection.

This sweet boy (tan) waited a YEAR for a forever home. And it looks like he found one of the most amazing families he could have asked for!

Today is ! The allows us to continue to help dogs from right here in Hale Center. Dogs like Smokey, who is heartworm positive. Dogs like Reign, who spent weeks roaming around, begging food off of anyone who would feed her at Allsups. It continues to support the care of dogs like Godiva, who are long stays hoping for that forever home to come around soon.

While we wish we had a tree that produced money, or even a rich benefactor, we simply don't. Our rescue is 100% funded by donations and of course our account is replenished by adoption fees. When dogs are adopted, that adoption fee is then utilized to help more dogs. But, we generally break even on adoption fees, and sometimes, for dogs like Smokey, we don't even scratch the surface of breaking even.

Rescue this year has been hard. We can't even put into words how hard it is. Adoptions are down across the country, but the number of stray dogs and dogs needing rescued are higher than we've ever experienced, even right here in Hale Center. It seems as though dogs are even being brought into city limits and dumped, knowing Paw Pals is here and will help them.

Here is the honest truth: without the help from our supporters, Paw Pals will soon cease to exist. The vetting, care, and day to day expenses don't stop just because adoptions have slowed down. Our funds have decreased substantially over the past 3 months due to low adoption rates and low donations. We’ve been able to send several dogs to partner rescues in the Northwest, but we get zero kickback from that. We invest all of the vetting costs and get zero in return. We do it because we want our dogs to find forever homes, but we know that comes at a cost to us.

Our expenses for care of the dogs generally are about $800/month. That doesn't include vet bills, which currently average about $1000-1500/month. An adoption fee of $300 barely covers the vetting for that dog (spay/neuter/heartworm test, vaccinations, chip, f***l, health certificate, flea/tick/heartworm prevention).

We want to continue to help as many Hale Center dogs as possible. Without PAW PALS of Hale Center, every dog who is picked up by our local animal control faces the grim reality of euthanasia if it doesn't get reclaimed by its owner. But without funds, that will be our grim reality as well.

We hope that you can help us out, whether by donating or sharing. We want Paw Pals to continue for as long as possible. With your help, maybe we can continue making a difference!

Adopted!!!

Turbo says, “You did all your shopping yesterday…today I’m shopping for a forever home!”

This big doodle goofball is about 80 pounds of excitement! He is very sweet, about 4 years old, and ready for his forever home.

He is energetic, and some basic obedience classes would help him out. He does appear to know the “sit” and “down” command.

($200 adoption fee if you are picking him up locally). If adopted through Project Freedom Ride, adoption fee is $600 and includes the cost of transport.

Mary Ellen is fitting in quite well in her forever home! We’ve received several messages doting on her and how smart she is!

Rescues aren’t broken, they were often just let down by people who never deserved them to begin with. 😔

Thank you so much to her family who now loves her and is showing her what a loving home feels like!

Meet Smokey! This adorable little schnauzer/yorkie(?) mix was picked up by our local animal control a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, his family never came to reclaim him.

He was a matted up mess, but Regina and her crew at Ritzy Rascal gave him a new 'do that had to have made him feel a million times better!

Smokey appears to be around 4 years old. He's about 14 pounds at the most. He will go tomorrow to be neutered. We are looking for a local adopter (local to Plainview/HC/Olton) for him. Why, you ask? Well, unfortunately, since his previous family didn't keep him on heartworm prevention, he is heartworm positive.

Heartworms are treatable, but it's a long process. We can't send him to our adopters in the PNW or NE until he tests negative, which would be several months from now. He doesn't need to spend the upcoming winter months at our rescue. We want him to be in his forever home asap. We will help pay for the heartworm treatment. There are a couple of different options we can take.

If you're interested in adopting Smokey, please fill out our application below. His $200 adoption fee includes his neuter, all vaccinations, registered microchip, 4DX, current monthly prevention for flea/tick, and again, we'll pay for his heartworm treatment.

Please understand that we already know that we will likely receive many apps for him and we will be looking for the best fit...not just the first applicant. We need the adopter to live close enough to Plainview that they can get him to his treatments when needed.

We love adopter updates! Here is one we just received from Trixie’s family (summer 2023 transport).

“Hello from Illinois 😊

Trixie visited the groomer yesterday and looks so adorable. She brings us so much joy and laughter and love everyday. We can never thank you enough. Thank you for all the work you do. We can't wait to see what she thinks of central Illinois winter weather especially the snow.”

Wishing Pac-Man all the best as he starts his new adventure with his forever family in the PNW. Pac-Man was a part of our transfer program where our TX Rescue Partner, PAW PALS of Hale Center, covers all the pre-transport vetting, PFR covers the transport, and our friends at The NOAH Center found him a loving family!!

Thank you to everyone who makes connections like this possible 💕

A year ago, we brought Laker to Paw Pals. He had been picked up as a stray in Levelland and would have been the first euthanized when they ran out of space. He was very old, crippled, skinny, and we truly thought we’d be lucky to have him for a couple months.

He went into a foster last August about a week after arriving here. He was an absolute perfect boy and spent one of the best years with Kim Emert and her family.

Today we said goodbye to Laker. His body just said it was time. He knew love the last year of his life, and we were all there with him as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. He is being cremated so that Kim and her family will always have him with them.

Days like today are hard, but we all take comfort in knowing he was loved so much and was given the best 13 months he could have. He didn’t have to die at a shelter all alone. He was surrounded by people who loved him and was kissed on and hugged and petted until he took his final breath.

Rest easy, sweet boy. 🐾
