Last two weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. On the 19th I went down to Zanesville Rifle Club to compete in the Ohio Reduced Course State Championship. A lot of good competitors showed up but I was able to come out on top with a pretty good score (shooting a service rifle)

This past weekend I put on a lot of hats as Alliance Rifle Club hosted the 2nd Annual Buckeye Blossom XTC Championship. Lots of good scores were shot and even with all my hats on, I was able to win one of the EIC matches we shot Sunday.

Thanks for all the companies who supported my match, thanks for everyone who came out, and congrats to everyone who won something. We ran 3 state championships this weekend and none of them were easy.

Now it's time for a weekend to catch up rifle cleaning and trying to get ahead of reloading before all the June shooting creeps up on me.

A great, and hotter than I think anyone was expecting, day to shoot, and some good scores.

Thanks to Zanesville for running the match and thanks to Tim and ORPA for sanctioning it.

Now onto next week!!!

What a great weekend. Alliance Rifle Club hosted the first ever Ohio Offhand State Championship. 60 shots with the top 8 competing an elimination shoot off. I think the match was a blast.

Unfortunately my rifle decided to stop working after my first shot for record, so I had to shoot a left handed AR for the whole match. Still a lot of fun though. Congrats to Randy Olds for winning and a big shout out to for her second place finish after having not shot for almost 2 years!

The season is definitely underway and I can't wait for what it has in store.

Offhand practice went pretty well Tuesday. shot offhand for the first time in 2 years. I shot my new scope for the first time (ended up with a pretty good offhand target). Great evening at the range! Now I just have to clean the for Sundays match.

I'm getting the band back together.

And by the band I mean the bolt gun which I'm doing weird things with different pieces. And by back together, I mean I'm trying to not wait until it gets warm to get back into shooting shape this year.

Tried out the Synapse Training System and it's a little finicky but I think it's going to get me to dry fire which is a wild concept for me.

Let's see what this year will bring.

My month of July has been a little crazy so my trip to CMP Nationals was shorter than usual this year, but for an incredible reason. (see the last picture)
I made it out for the Hurst Doubles and the NTT 6man team match. I shot pretty well both days and the Ohio State Service Rifle Team shot well enough in the 6man to come away with the Soldier of Marathon Trophy for High Civilian Team. I was fortunate enough to coach our team as well which means I was awarded an Elihu Root medal and was apart of the National Civilian Team. I'll take shooting two days and coming away with a national championships in a heartbeat.

More importantly though, Gabby and I got to bring our little one to for the first time at 3 weeks old and that alone made everything worth it. Can't wait to continue to make more memories there in the future.

A weekend at is always a good weekend but some are better than others. I was fortunate to shoot well this weekend and win the Ohio State Championship. Conditions were there for some good scores and plenty were shot but I managed to come out on top with a 793-38x, a personal best with the service rifle. The Governor's Cup on Sunday wasn't as good but still ended up taking 3rd overall. Thanks to Tim and ORPA and the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for running the matches

The Sierra Bullets 77s out of Krieger Barrels barrel all weekend and they shot lights out, like always.
I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I might be shooting the service rifle a bit more often.....

Rainy day outside meant it was time to catch on some brass prep mostly on Peterson Cartridge Co 308 brass.
Not my favorite thing to do but it has to be done. Had lots of MeatEater podcasts to catch up on though so it wasn't too bad. Good thing is I'll get to shoot tomorrow!

Last weekend I shot the Ohio Reduced Course State Championship. I started off the match with a clean on my first ten shots offhand and carried that momentum the rest of the way. Lost a couple points I shouldn't have but ended up with a 792-28 and came away the state champion for the second year in a row. And despite my face in the picture I was pretty happy 😂

Thanks to Zanesville Rifle Club and everyone who ran the match for putting on a great event. This reduced championship is turning into one of my favorite matches.

Despite the weather, we were able to get a nice little practice match in today. The 9 ring was needy enough to distract me and claim a few shots today but for the second match of the year, I think a 794 will do just fine.

Long range tomorrow with the palma rifle to see if it's finally going to cooperate with me. It's a love-hate relationship.

Last couple of weeks have been filled with dry fire, group testing, getting positions, and getting used to the new rifle. I think after my last offhand practice that ended up with me shooting a nice little 200-5x standing that I think I might have everything where I want it.

Now if I can just get the weather to cooperate this weekend for the next match I'll be set!

Well that's a wrap for the 2022 National Matches for me.

Had a great time as always. Set some PRs and came back with a bit of hardware.

The 1st week I shot my 6BR bolt gun and shot it well the first two days setting two PRs in a row. The third day was a bit lower but I was still able to come away with the title of 2022 CMP Match Rifle National Champion as well as a handful of other awards.

This past week was a bit less exciting with some rifle issues and things just not quite going my way, but it was still a fantastic week.

Overall I can't really ask for much more fun packed into two weeks and I'm already thinking about next year!

Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me this year. None of it would be possible without you.

This is my home for the next week as the marathon has begun. I only have like 1000 rounds to load for 4-5 different rifles in the next 5 days. At some point all the other packing will get done too....... Maybe

Both rapid prone strings from this past weekend's match at Solon. Nice to shoot a match and have some solid rapid fire strings. Unfortunately slow fire left a lot to be desired but I'll get that squared away.

And I know, I could have had more X's if I was 1/2min higher 🙃

Well it didn't all go as planned but the state championships this past weekend went pretty well.

Saturday was the XTC championships and after a bumpy first few stages I finished out strong and ended up taking 3rd overall.

Sunday, after the boat was removed (that's a story in itself haha) I shot the service rifle in the Ohio Governor's Match and took 2nd overall and 1st place Ohio resident.

And then we decided to shoot another match for the Mid Range championship where I took first match rifle and first overall with a neat little score of 498-28x.

Both guns shot flawlessly but with the combo of Peterson Cartridge Co Mighty Armory dies, Sierra Bullets and Krieger Barrels that is not a surprise. Without them I definitely wouldn't be able to shoot the scores I do.

Overall it was a great weekend thanks to the CMP and Ohio Rifle and pistol association running three great matches. I can't wait to be back at in a month!

It occurred to me as I stand here and loading, that I never posted about the Ohio Reduced Course State Championship a few weeks ago. Sooo.......

It went pretty well. Equipment worked flawless, which is a big change from the last year or so. Sierra Bullets shot phenomenal out of the Peterson Cartridge Co 243 SRP brass through my Krieger Barrels barrel. Weather was annoying to say the least. We shot standing in some pretty stiff wind. It took me a while to figure out my groove there but once I did I was golden. Rapids were lower than where I'd like them but for the first match of the year, we will take it. And then slow fire prone should have been a 200, but I decided to not trust myself and wait for the wind to blow again and shot that first shot out. Overall score was a 787-27x which earned me high match rifle and the overall win.

Thanks to everyone who put on the match, it was flawless and it's nice seeing ORPA having a presence again. Hopefully we can continue the trend the last weekend in June and between gabby and I hopefully come home with two more state championships!
