A couple of decades ago my old college friend Joel Robert and I bumped into each other at a sparsely attended Silo's show at Lightening Salvage. I had written a pocket full of songs and he was open to hearing them. Joel brought with him some accumulated knowledge in audio engineering and his always on point drum skills. I could form 6 or 7 chords and squeak out some vocals. We were joined on bass by Iver Thue, then Roy Herbert and then Brian Nelson with whom we recorded our first record - Port Side Home. We were lucky to get to play shows around town despite being "old guys" and when Brian moved - Kevin Bailey thankfully wanted to jump in the Boat. We moved from a warehouse space in Gainesville to a studio we built in Micanopy and recorded our second record Debris Cover. Work, parenting and Covid limited the time we could get together but we started writing and recording a new batch of songs with goals for more live shows in the near future.
That brings us to the reason for this post. Joel accepted a position with Penn Arts and is on his way tomorrow to Philadelphia. We worked hard to record our new material the last few months and will be adding finishing pieces in the upcoming few months remotely. Once Joel is settled and able there will be a collection of new Big Boat songs for your listening pleasure. Will we play live again? Unknown, but hopeful. We are thankful for all of you who supported and collaborated with us these last 20 years. Thank you to the clubs who allowed us old guys to continue to live out our rock glory needs. And thank you to you in advance for checking our our upcoming stuff.

It’s been way too long but we are actually going to play a show with our friends - The Rennys! Remember all those great songs from “Debris Cover”? Yeah - we won’t be playing those. That’s because we wrote a whole new batch that we are currently recording - and you get to hear them all - many for the first time. Come on out and let us know what you think of the new Big Boat classics.
