*DATE: Monday, September 2, 2024*
*(Organ Donation Week & Coconut Day)*

*TOPIC: HE SACRIFICES ALL*

*MEMORISE:*
And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take *(Mark 15:24).*

*READ: Mark 15:21-32*
21. Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross.

22. And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.

23. Then they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take it.

24. And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take.

25. Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.

26. And the inscription of His accusation was written above:

27. With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left.

28. So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors.”

29. And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,

30. save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”

31. Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save.

32. Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him.

*EXPOSITION*
As today commemorates Organ Donation Week and Coconut Day, it is good to know that Jesus did not just donate an organ in His body, but He gave His entirety for the salvation of mankind. The fulfilment of the prophecy of Christ's birth, death and resurrection as the Saviour of humanity is truly remarkable. Despite being entirely sinless, Jesus willingly embraced His role as the sacrificial Lamb (Isa. 53:3-10). Certainly, Jesus Christ epitomises the concept of sacrifice, temporarily setting aside the splendours of heaven to fulfil His divine mission on Earth. Despite sharing equal status with God, He showed profound humility by not claiming the lofty privileges linked to that status. When the time was right, Jesus willingly relinquished the benefits of His divinity and took on the role of a servant, fully immersing Himself in the human experience. He opted to live a life characterised by selflessness and obedience, leading to His atoning death, the agonising crucifixion. Despite having other potential paths to fulfil His divine destiny, Jesus intentionally chose the challenging journey of Calvary. He could have opted for a quicker and less painful means of death rather than enduring the crucifixion at the hands of His very creatures. Even in moments when the weight of the impending sacrifice could have led Him to contemplate giving up, He remained resolute in adhering to the Father's will.

Reflect on the incredible sacrifice of Christ and the blessings from this. Imagine the transformative, impact if we fully embrace the redemption secured by Christ on our behalf.

*PRAYER POINTS*
1. Lord Jesus, thank You for Your sacrificial life to save me.

2. Lord, let your blood set me free from all chains and shackles.

3. Lord, fill the hearts of ministers of the gospel at all levels with Your attitude of sacrifice, to help us do Your work with the right attitude.

*SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB: 292*
1. Redemption! Oh, wonderful story
Glad message for you and for me
That Jesus has purchased our pardon,
And paid all the debt on the tree.

*Chorus:*
Believe it, O sinner, believe it,
Receive the glad message-'tis true;
Trust now in the crucified Saviour
Salvation he offers to you.

2. From death unto life He hath brought us
And made us by grace Sons of God;
A fountain is opened for sinners;
Oh, wash and be cleans'd in the blood.

3. No longer shall sin have dominion,
Though present to tempt and annoy;
For Christ , in His blessed redemption,
The power of sin shall destroy.

4. Accept now God's offer of mercy;
To Jesus, oh, hasten today;
For He will received him that cometh,
And never will turn him away.

Amen.

(World Letter Writing Day)

TOPIC:
YOU ARE CHRIST'S EPISTLE

MEMORISE

Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. (2 Corinthians 3:3)

READ
Corinthians 3:1-3

[1]. Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as some others, epistles of commendation to you or letters of commendation from you?

[2]. You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men;

[3]. clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

EXPOSITION

The word "epistle" comes from Greek, epistolé ("letter," "message," or "dispatch"), even as today marks World Letter Writing Day. In Hebrew, it is iggerah, also meaning "letter" and mainly used for missives (communiqués)-long, official, formal letters, usually from someone in an important capacity. In the NT, epistles were initially written as letters to the early Christians. Paul emphasised to the Corinthian brethren that the Lord God chose them to be a message for the world. God has chosen to use Christians as His letter to the world, conveyed in their actions and attitudes. Do you believe this applies to you today? Can the world perceive God's true nature and Power through your words and actions? Paul's letter to Timothy emphasised his role as a representative of Christ, commanding Timothy to follow his teachings and leading by example (2 Tim. 3:10-15). This underscores the idea that Christianity is more than mere rituals, but a way of life centred around Christ. We are compared to a letter written by preachers, widely recognised and read by all, and most importantly, a letter from Christ that revealed God's nature to the world (2 Cor. 3:2; 5:18-20). Therefore, it was crucial for Timothy to accurately portray God through his actions. What are you doing with life. What signal are you sending to the world around. Consider these things.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, help me to always remember that I am to represent You in this world.

2. Here am I, O Lord God, use me entirely for Your glory alone.

3. Pray for our children in schools and on campuses to always remember that they are representing God wherever they are.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 793

1. Shining for Jesus everywhere I go
Shining for Jesus in this world of woe
Shining for Jesus, more
Like Him I grow
Shining all the time for Jesus.

Shining all the time
Shining all the time
Shining for Jesus,
Beams of love divine
Glorifying Him every day and hour
Shining all the time for Jesus.

2. Shining for Jesus when the way is bright
Shining for Jesus in the darkest night
Shining for Jesus, making burdens light
Shining all the time for Jesus.

3. Shining for Jesus in a world of sin
Shining for Jesus bringing lost ones in
Shining for Jesus, glorifying him
Shining all the time for Jesus.

4. Shining for Jesus when He gives me grace
Shining for Jesus, while I run the race
Shining for Jesus, till I see His face
Shining all the time for Jesus.

Amen.

TOPIC:
GOD'S WORD NEVER FAILS

MEMORISE

Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass (Joshua 21:45).

READ
Joshua 21: 43-45

[43]. So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.

[44]. The Lord gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.

[45]. Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.

EXPOSITION

It is of utmost importance that we prioritise and give heed to what God says about us, placing them above the prevailing opinions of society. We have a duty to fulfil the divine plans and purposes that God has ordained for our lives. Our text today shows that God had previously revealed to their forefathers the land that would be their inheritance. However, their journey was not without its challenges, as they encountered numerous obstacles and engaged in battles with various nations before finally reaching the Promised Land. God's promises don't automatically come to realisation; rather, we must remain unwavering and determined in the face of adversity.

When confronted with challenges along our own paths, it is imperative that we understand how to respond appropriately. Firstly, we must be adequately prepared in the Lord to confront and overcome these challenges. Don't shy away from, or underestimate the obstacles that can impede your progress towards your promised land. Stand resolute and fight, relying on God's strength and power in Christ to ultimately achieve victory. Also, always remember and hold fast to God's promises in His Word. This helped Joshua a lot in successfully possessing the land that God had promised their forefathers. It is unfortunate that many of God's promises remain unfulfilled in our lives due to our lack of perseverance. Firmly believe that no Word of God will go unfulfilled.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord Jesus, help me to know Your power in this confused World.

2. Grant me the opportunity to rely on Your Word for the fulfilment of Your promises for my life, Oh Lord.

3. Lord Jesus, prove further through, and in Your Church in the land, that Your Word never fails.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 458

1. Lord, Thy word abideth,
And, our footsteps guideth;
Who its truth believeth
Light and joy receiveth.

2. When our foes are near us,
Then Thy word doth cheer us,
Word of consolation
Message of salvation.

3. When the storms are o'er us,
And dark clouds before us,
Then its light directeth.
And our way protecteth.

4. Who can tell the pleasure,
Who recount the treasure,
By Thy word imparted
To the simple-hearted?

5. Word of mercy, giving
Succour to the living;
Word of life, supplying
Comfort to the dying!

6. O that we, discerning
Its most holy learning,
Lord, may love and fear Thee,
Evermore be near Thee!

Amen.

MONEY KNOWS NO STATUS; EARN IT LEGITIMATELY

MEMORISE

A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry, but money answers all things (Ecclesiastes 10:19).

READ
Ecclesiastes. 9:10-13;
11:1-6

Ecclesiastes. 9:10-13

[10]. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

[11]. I returned and saw under the sun that—
the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

[12]. For man also does not know his time: like fish taken in a cruel net, like birds caught in a snare, so the sons of men are snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

[13]. This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me:

Ecclesiastes. 11:1-6

[1]. Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.

[2]. Give a serving to seven, and also to eight,
for you do not know what evil will be on the earth.

[3]. If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth; and if a tree falls to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.

[4]. He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

[5]. As you do not know what is the way of the wind, or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know the works of God who makes everything.

[6]. In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand; for you do not know which will prosper, either this or that,
or whether both alike will be good.

EXPOSITION

Many rich people, both in the past and present, came from humble beginnings. This shows that having a high status doesn't always mean having a prestigious background. This is important to teach ambitious young people. Some young people today are so focused on getting rich that they engage in dangerous activities like drug dealing and violence. However, it is important to understand that success and wealth don't come easily. They require hard work and even divine intervention. Even jobs that are not considered "white- collar" can be very profitable. It is important to work hard and not be idle, as idleness can lead to bad things.

Jobs like farming, animal husbandry and security are important and not looked down upon. In fact, God is often compared to a farmer who takes care of His people. Starting with a simple job like driving or sales can lead to success in entrepreneurship. Getting a higher education can also help improve skills and lead to excellence in various fields. This approach is a practical way to address the widespread problems of unemployment and the temptation to engage in criminal activities and wrongdoings. It is important to note that no government has a perfect solution to the issue of unemployment. However, you have the ability to initiate something small and develop it into your desired successful outcome, as today commemorates National Small Industry Day, National Beach Day, International Whale Shark Day and International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance. This is the true story of numerous successful persons globally. May you achieve greatness, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank our great God from Whom comes provision and promotion.

2. Pray to God to make a way for you where there is none, and help you to make good money onto His glory.

3. Repent of every wasted opportunity. Rebuke every spirit of laziness and redundancy in your life in Jesus' name.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: Var 14

1. As I journey thro' the land singing as I go
Pointing souls to calvary-to the crimson flow,
Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within;
But my Lord leads me on, through him I must win
Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face
There to sing for ever of His saving grace
On the streets of glory let me lift my voice;
Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice.

2. When in service for my Lord, dark may be the night
But I'll cling more close to him,He will give me light
Satan's snares may vex my soul, turn My thought aside;
But my Lord goes ahead, leads what'er betide

3. When in valleys low I look towards the mountain height,
And behold my Saviour there, leading in the fight.
With a tender hand outreached
Towards the valley low,
Guiding me, I can see, as I onward go.

4. When before me billows rise from the mighty deep,
Then my Lord directs my barque,
He doth safely keep,
And He leads me gently on through
This world below,
He's a real Friend to me, oh, I Love Him so.

Amen.
