RELIEF.

That moment when you hear your cancer specialist say that all your bloodwork is excellent. Your cancer marker is undetectable. Your cancer antibody level is zero. Your hormone levels are optimal.

This is the first time since my surgery on 8.29.16, that I have gotten good test results that were not followed by a "but."
..but there is an abnormality in your spinal cord on the MRI. You need to see a neurosurgeon.
..but your salivary gland is abnormally enlarged since your last scan. We need a MRI to check for a recurrence.
..but your hormone levels are normal. I don't know why you feel terrible.
..but...

I'm here to tell you it does get easier. The anxiety and fear when you have testing done is paralyzing and the deep breath that you exhale as you get good results is priceless. Then the tears well up in your eyes because at least for today, the risk of your cancer rearing its ugly head is gone.

If you are in this fight; I see you. I get you. I understand how you are feeling thankful, mad, guilty, hopeful and 10 other conflicting emotions all at the same time. I'm here to tell you that this cancer journey sucks. But I am grateful to be on this side of it. I am truly one of the lucky ones.
